This machine is amazing. My PC is complete cak compared to the akai for timing and ease of use. It is great for drums and loops and although slow the timestretch is one of the best i've heard. I once made a piano multisample on it for a laugh. It took 2-3 hours and it wasn't very good. Distinctive, but not good. The pads are responsive and consistant and the quantize and groove features are second to none. My next door neighbour wrote the song "to forgive but not forget" (Outside) which is a good example of what is easily achieved by the mahcine. Well the drums anyway.

OK GUYS,IVE RECENTLY PURCHASED THE MPC2000XL AND IN MY OPPINION IT ROCKS! PREVIOUSLY I WAS USING VST WITH THE S2OOO WHICH WAS ALSO A GREAT SYSTEM FOR MY PROJECTS(HIP-HOP), CONSIDERING THE ALL IN ONE SAMPLE/SEQUENCE PACKAGE I COULD'NT RESIST THE 2000XL.IT REALLY IS THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO A COMPUTER BASED SET UP.SO FAR IVE RECORDED SIX TRACKS, EVERYONE A WINNER.

Got the xl yesterday, First impression... Loving it!
Very easy to use. I have heard people talk about a 'learning curve' but all I can say is be resourceful and you will do fine. I am blown away by the sequencer. Step, linear, or loop recording. 99 sequences per track. Record in full or piece bits together. The MPC is changing the way I do music and I still have so much more to learn.
I can finally do build-up machine gun rolls.
_Bad things_
1) It froze on me once. I was changing the time C on a loop and well nothing .....wait......
2) the sampler section. Ugh, I am going to give it more time. Maybe there is something I am not doing that would make it better or maybe it will grow on me.
# 4 out 5 $ don't pay more than $1000 for a basic used one. @ check out shreve audio for a great new price.

I have owned this unit for approx. 6 months and I'm delighted with it. I also use Logic Audio Platinum with it's 960ppq timing. I didn't go in on purchasing this machine with the mindset that it would be the end-all be-all workstation. The sampler aspect is a "phrase sampler" and it meets this end quite well. My EMU does all the other cool shit like twisting the hell out of a sound with it's array of filters. I do not have an issue with the timing aspect of the machine. There has been no audible difference with regards to timing noted by associates (Pro drummers and producers) or myself. The sequencer is really what I'm pleased with. It may seem daunting initially but once you dive in it's smooth rollin'! I favor both sequencing environments for different reasons (hardware vs. software). The one shortcoming I can see is the absence of Normalization. All in all a great bit of gear and much preferred for live performances.

If all you cry babies can't make music on an MPC than you got some major problems. Get help!!! I use mine to sequence my S5000, Jv2080, and the Nordlead and it does the job fine with no problem. Forget cubase and Roger Linn I dont need them. At the end of the day it's about making music so get busy with what you have and stop crying.
