Picked up the MPC 2500 last week and I can't find much to complain about. It definitely is an improvement from the MPC 2000, with a broader feature set and intuitive interface.

There is a great combination of live performance features and programming options to satisfy most. Direct and thru recording will be very useful and chop shop & patched phrase could save a bit of time in the editing arena.

I've experienced no bugs yet. The effects, looping and Q-Link controls are spot on and the memory is sufficient (longer phrases go into the recording unit).

The only thing I'd prefer is USB master instead of slave to connect a fob to, but I'm sure there are workarounds.

Andy, the MPC2500 will not send or receive MTC. It uses MIDI Clock for sync, and that's it! Get your protocols straight!

Midi Clock is useless for overdubbing when slaving a DAW to the MPC.

Get a clue Numark!

My first MPC and so far I'm not regretting it.

Getting a beat up and running is a breeze, whether it be by single shot samples or chopping up a break. The OS, as I guess is the case with all MPCs, is simple and intuitive yet very powerful - the more you dig the more you find out.

You're forced to get hands-on with an MPC and it doesn't disappoint in that respect, it's a very tactile beast. Build quality overall is great, the only let down in that respect is the plastic data wheel, brushed stainless would've been nice. Getting in to install a HD (the bracket is already in there) and extra memory couldn't be simpler.

As for connectivity. USB is a little on the slow side these days but suffices, USB2 would've been nicer. HD shows up on OSX desktop like any other external drive would. The supplied 32Mb Compact Flash card is a little on the small side but again does it's job nicely. Personally I think it's a no brainer to upgrade the HD over the CF card, with a 40g 2.5" drive costing around the same price as a 1g CF card. There's plenty of connectivity options on the back, check the full specs for a complete list. It syncs fine using MTC in Logic Pro/Motu 828, no issues there.

I'll give it 5/5 as despite what are only a couple of minor gripes the 2500 is going serve me well for a good number of years to come.

I have been using the MPC 2500 since 1 Oct 05 under OS 1.00. The OS does not have any 'bugs' in the chop shop or patched phrase functions.

The MPC 2500 is going for as low as $1600 (Alto Music) new. There is nothing out there today that can beat its features at that price.
