I don't own a 2500 but I have owned MPC 2000 and Akai S6000. I really cannot understand why people buy this overpriced buggy thing. Already with S6000 you couldn't reliably transfer samples via USB using Aksys. From time to time you got a glitch on long samples, I have tried this on two machines. Akai didn't find it necessary to apply some data retransmission protocol. Now I read all this complaints. Why the hell you need this archaic machine? Buy a workstation with sequencer for the same money, or an MV8080, and you get good timing and just about 10 times more functionality. Is it only because you have to use these rubber pads (LOL!!!)? Or buy Reason and use a PC.

i'm very dissapointed. i've had a mpc 2000xl for 5yrs. never ran into all these problems i'm getting with the 2500. akai needs to fix the OS. i tried the JJ os free version and i was able to get around lots of the bugs i've encountered. i think all akai 2500 user should get together and start a class action suit. i know akai i aware of all the bugs in this unit, yet they are not doing nothing about it. why should we have to purchase a third party to fix their s... why don't they purchase the jj os and offer it free to the users of their products? maybe they are the ones behind the JJ os? making money on something that should be offered free.

2500 is the best option out now if you want to control external modules. Chop shop is okay with the akai OS but if you upgrade to the JJ os then you can really get the best out of this boy. Akai sidestepped on their OS but it gets the job done. Before you get a 60/2000/XL/1000/4000 STOP, and get the 2500!
