You have to set the timing correct to a certain value. (everything but NOT to [off] ) Then press play of start recording and press & hold the timing correct button. Now you kan hold pads or hold keys to repeat.

The MPC4000 is a totally DIFFERENT instrument than the 3K. The 4000 is less intuitiv, many sub-menu's, hidden functions, more like a PC, crashes, doesn't give what it promised. A mpc3k with a powerbook would be a better choice.)if you can afford it)
