Hey, I have a 32mb MPC3000(v3.10). It was super easy to do it too, just follow the instructions on that rlinn page. You don't have to get any special upgrades or anything, just order the 30-pin 16mb simms and drop 'em in, remove the 2meg board and you're set to go. I had a really weird problem when i first turned on the unit, in that whenever i tried to sample it would crash, but since then i've had no problems.

The 32Mb Linn memory upgrade for the MPC3000 is effectively a "third-party" modification by Roger Linn Design.

The MPC3000 RAM was originally expandable to a max of 16Mb (2 x 4Mb SIMMS plus the 8Mb Akai board from the S3000) however Linn have obviously found a way to improve on this (I do not know if Linn provide an operating system upgrade to allow this or whether the 32Mb can be accessed on the existingO/S).

Akai will obviously stand by *their* upgrade options, I'd be extremely surprised if they recommended another companies mods for their machines, even if they are by Roger Linn!

Have a look at http://www.rlinndesign.com/support.html for contact details for the 32Mb upgrade.

Just for the ones who don't know:

The MPC3000 can have max 32 Mb of memory and a new sofware update v 3.12 can be downloaded from the Roger Linn site.

Recently I was saving money, because I had to buy a new car. Then I saw the MPC 3000 at a store, worked a bit with it and fell totally in LOVE. So I'm still driving in my old rusty, noisy car and using the MPC in the studio for all my drumtracks now. I am curious what the new software update (sys 3.12, from the Roger Linn homepage) will do. Does anyone know if I can return to the old version of the software (3.11) and what will be the benefit of the 3.12 version ? I also want to know that, if I install the video display connector, if I can still use the small display on the MPC3000.

I just found an MPC3000 v3.8 for $600.00!(lucky me) I am now going to slave the MPC2000 to the 3000 and use the four midi out on the 3000 as well as the two midi outs on the 2000. I will tell you how it works later...
