I've had my s3k-xl for almost 2 years now and I'm still in love with it. I especially like it's 'hollow' sound; much better than it's EMU brothers. The only thing I could think of to improve is the filters. The cool parts for me are the midiplayer (now my sequence is tight as can be) and the multiloop option. Over a period of two years it crashed 1(!) time because of a corrupt zipdisk>> amazing!. Another very good thing is that Akai Pro still supports the s3000 with drivers etc.

I just got my Akai S3000XL 2 days ago, so I don't know everything from the sampler yet ;) But I'm sure it's asskicking!!! I use a Yamaha Cs1x as masterkeyboard, but I have a problem, I can play all the sounds from the sampler with my keyboard and it responds also to pitch & modulation, but I can't use the Cutoff, resonance, attack,... from my Cs1x on the sampler sounds. Anyone knows what the problem here is? Please e-mail me! But it's really a great sampler: 16 parts! I only had a Cs1x before.. 1 part ;) So it's really much better now!

I got my S3000XL a few months ago, and have not been disappointed at all. The adage of "what goes in comes out" truly applies to this box. 8 Analog outs, SP/DIF i/o, uses standard 72 pin SIMMs, SCSI port. It's a winner.
Make sure to not overlook using the SCSI port on this baby. You can hook up hard drives/CD-ROMS, etc, but the best is if you jack it into your PC. Get a $50 SCSI board, use MESA II or Millennium, and use your monitor and mouse as an interface to the sampler. Drag & Drop .WAV files to send to the sampler. Dump all samples & programs to and from the computer's hard drive. Brilliant!

The S-3000XL is an excellent sampler. Great sound and easy to edit. Xtra cred for the multi-section! The only negative thing I can think of at the moment, must be that the EQ is`nt realtime, and that not all cd-roms does`nt work on it - that sucks! The S-3200 (wich is much more expencive) dont use ordinary simm, and that means a LOT more cash to expand the memory. The S-3000XL btw.....:)) If your thinking of buying a sample, have the S-3000XL in mind!
