I have had my dear S-3000XL a couple of years now and i am very happy with the machine. But one thing pissed me off about it. And that is the damn Scsi "Hotplug" fuse on the mainboard. So what i did was to remove the broken component and replace it with wires connected to a fuseholder on the back of the sampler witch i placed on the right side of the Scsi port.

I really recomend you to do this improvment for less cursing in the studio =)

Awesome sampler for the money. I use the version with the built in CD-Rom player (the CD3000xl). What a sweet machine. I use this in conjunction with my e5000ultra and it a really fine pair to work with. Very powerful in tandem. I will never need more power than this. I dont like soft samplers. Never will switch over. Many studios still use these and they are very capable machines. I love mine.

Time has come to this 16 bit dated sampler.

It sounds quite nice just on medium/high frequencies.

Kind of strange emphais at that frequenicies make it nice for hats.

AVOID for bassdrums,it "etas" part of the low frequencies and can transform your harcore 909 bassdrum into a ridiculous parodie.

The low pass filter is bad as hell, filetr board is average but pfffff

The best of it, the second hand price.

I think this is the only time software is better than hardware,go to EXS24 for everything and use this just to fill your rack or for hi- hats.

CONDEMNED TO DEATH,BABY!!

Versatile machine. A studio in a box. Even read MIDI files. You can record all your backing track on a hard disk and that's it... The show must go on.

This is the professional standard for sampling. You know your getting great quality with Akai samplers. They are in every studio around the world. This is a great sampler. Make sure if you pick one up that it should have the filter board installed so you can REALLY mangle the hell out of your samples. If you find one for less than $600 bucks, then jump on it like a jack rabbit, especially if it has a filter board installed. Great sampler.
