I've been using my S2000 for a few years. I like it ok, but it's not the greatest. It samples nice and clean sounding, but has VERY little low end punch. So, for drums it's not that great. The one filter isn't that useable on most sounds, emu's have better filtering. It also is buggy and freezes up here and there. But, with the price down to what it is these days, it's not a bad value for the money if you're just starting out. I just got a SP1200 for nice gritty-punchy drums while using the S2000 for the longer, cleaner sounding samples. Best of both worlds as they say..

I bought a S2000 more then a year ago, since it was so inexpensive and has the same features as the S3000 series. I haven't regret this once.

True, the filter isn't that good, but there's the expansion if you want good filters. There are plenty other options possible for everyone's needs (i've the EB-16 FX-board).

It's sounds clear and crispy, which i like. I don't have any real problems with bass since you can (if needed, and that's far from always) do some EQ-ing on your mixer.

And you've access to the huge Akai sample cd libraries that will sound as they were meant to sound. Btw, it's also Emu and Roland compatible...

You'll find it even cheaper today, so it's still worth checking out!

Just got a stock S2000 for $300.... MESA is invaluable, I couldnt imagine programming this thing without it! It does have a severe memory leak though which really sucks. The S2000 excells in some areas, but in others, like the filter, it lacks(and Im not about to spend $300 for the filter upgrade). All in all it has a VERY clean sound. I wouldnt hesitate to trade this for a better sampler (unlike some other pieces of gear I have)

Great sample except if you want any bass get an emi -- the akai's 12db filter is super weak, and there is only one filter model -- for the same price you can get the bottom of the line E-mu sampler with 36 filter models (up to 6 pole) and not lose all of your bass timbre to a crappy japanese filter.

Sample a TR808 bass drum for comparison you'll immediately see what I mean.. Akai: air fart no bass timbre / E-mu retains atleast 90% of the bass and without any noticable distortion.

You make the call, tiny lcd weak filter less polophony and the same price as the E-mu -- 2 words rip off..

I just picked up one of these samplers recently for less than $700, brand new out of the box. My impression so far is very good. The machine is super easy to work with even without the Windows editing software. Right now I'm using a bare-bones system with no upgrades. If this machine only gets better with the upgrades, then it should do just about any sampling job. I give it high marks for the ease of use and great sound.
