OKAY..... i heard enough stuff about the s5000 being a "buggy" sampler. With all the new OS updates, is it any better? i am considering buying one, but i want to make sure that the midi timing problem is fixed, especially for drum rolls and so on.. what's this i heard about not being able to format a hard drive? I would like for someone with the latest OS to post what they think about it so I can get a better idea.

The S5000 is awesome! What a beast. The screen and interface are the best I have seen. The features just go and on. Akai has been good to contact when needed. The EB20 effect board is alot of fun.
I have also installed an 18gig SCSI drive internally. This allows me to boot up load a multi and go!
Adding memory was simple. You can max this bad boy out at 256 meg.

Excellent filters, Excellent MIDI timing...and MIDI file playback. Save laptop for softsynths now! Still need scsi cable and terminator for external hard drive and need a lil' more RAM, but I love it so far!! Has anyone heard of an Akai screen on one of these dying out completely? thanx for any info!

Bought a normal IDE hard drive for mine - used the Akai IDE/SCSI converter card - fitted it - no probs - bought USB interface with AKS software BIG PROBLEM !! only half a picture of the sampler panel on the computer screen - cannot enlarge whatever I do- any quick fixes for this problem anyone? Mine has extended Ram,External CD via SCSI ,internal Hard drive with IDE/SCSI interface kit fitted,USB kit fitted.Strongly advice to search out these things if purchasing , USB not essential but everything else pretty much is... cost over another £400 odd on top of sampler price when we added these things.Other than that can't fault it really.
