The Akai s6000 is superb for film based and ambient music. It's got the sound. If you're doing Techno go Emu. If your looking for a sampler with an "in your face" sound go Emu. If you want to be working over an inferior LCD playing page games go Emu. Samplers are a love/hate scenario. One isn't any better than the other. It's a matter of "subjective opinion".

I've worked with both machines extensively and the Akai is easier to get around on. Also, the fact that I can take the LCD with me in the studio is an advantage.

I had some occassional freezes in vs. 1.20 and just upgraded to vs.2.00

If anybody out there can fill me in on their opinion of vs 2.oo let me know. I'm working on a new CD and need as much input as possible.

What's my best way to set this machine up to get the most out of it by using the "user keys" and does anybody out there use 'mark' and 'jump' on a regular basis.

I'm glad I found this site. It's good to hear other people's thoughts on such issues.

Best Regards,

W.

This machine is the sole instrument of Amon Tobin(along with a Mutronics Mutator). If you've heard of him, this review should say enough. If you haven't, perhaps it's time you pick up some of his work...

Just give yourself some time with the 6000 and about speed you have to rember that the 6000 can do so much more than the 950 and maybe you are doing more thinks with it then on the 950 but Trust me the 6000 its easy to use . I have had mine for 2 years now and i am doing more and more things with it just give it some time

portamento is coming is os 2.0

*crosses fingers* ;-)

yea, the OS in the s6000 is working, but probably sucks compared to the emu samplers (i can't really say because i've never really used an emu sampler). but you do realize that emu is on version 4 of their os, so it's not really suprising that akai are a few steps behind.

but i can still make music with my s6000.
