well got one for 25$ 3 days ago. drive works i am getting disks online.i have a secret source for them ...no,not ebay lol. anyway this has character like a mirage. lowpass filter is nice and lfo is good.cannot choose waveform though.... huge beast of a thing.. button for every parameter too.nice. no manual but within 10 minutes i had sampled and made a track using my vs840ex and this. 8 seconds sampling i think one sample per side per 2.8 inch qd !!LOL wow ....i like its sound though

I have one of these on order for 35 from someone in the UK. 35!!!!!!!!!! (I Used to have one ages ago and recorded my first album with it) I was wondering if anybody knows if the sound library is still in existance (if any). If so, where can I purchase the disks from. I have managed to find one outlet in the Netherlands but I am located in the UK and would prefer somewhere closer to home. Any help is appreciated.

Built like a TANK,Great easy to use Sampler,Love the LFO,sampling Lo-Fi grunginess sounds very good like the Sp-1200 and the CLASSIC EMU series. Small Quick Disk are okay! Are harder getting hard to find,Great for a Synth/sampler collector. If you find one get one.c-ya

its not so fair to compare it w/ a today's sampler,on functions i think. it's cool at its time, affordable than the mirage, well, they sounded different indeed.i bought one in 87 about $950. 2.8 inch(not 2.5" pal) quick disk is so strange for today, and u can do nothing w/o it today.on function, i have to mention the x7000 had a hidden multi-timbral feature that u can play 6 timbres at once, but sadly just can't adjust volume for each timbre(just like the damn korg ds8).it's good enough at that time to play a whole 12-bit grungy drum kit on one x7000.and the sound library is good quality, similar to its big brother/successor,s900.

R Gorden a part-time user from USA writes:
The Akai X-7000 was my first professional keyboard. I had a plethora of samples on disk available which I got free from the dealer. Overall, I loved it's rich samples. However, with all samplers of the 1980's some of the loops were lousy. I used it as my main controller for several years. I liked the length of the keyboard and it's white case. The big disadvantge was it used 2.5 inch floopy disk which could only be bought through it's dealer. However, it's drive was really fast compared to the Kurzweil 1000's 3.5 in drive. It has a small blacklight green display which did the job. Would have been nice if it were bigger. Not much more to say about it. I sold it as part of a rig package in 1990. Personally, I would never buy one again if I had the chance. There are a lot better used samplers out their. I recently bought a Yamaha PSR-D1 (DJX) for $300 that has a comparable sampler in it, minus the drive, sounds better and is versitle in it's assignable features.
