the sequencer on this machine is a nightmare to use. Indeed, with a retrospective view, this machine is bug ridden and not worth the money. Yes sonically, it delivers in program mode but as for ease of use and alike in other modes, it is a nightmare. I'll probably slave it to my 17 year old ESQ80 which it was supposed to replace.. DO NOT BUY! You'll be dissappointed and you'll loose money...

Excellent synth. Lots of possibilities, and very easy user interface. Very nice VA (3 osc) and FM engines, besides a ROMpler with a massive amount of sounds, and a Physical Modelling engine which allows you to create really special and spooky sounds. Also, great filters (classic HP, LP etc with 2,4,6 or even 8 poles, but also e.g. Formant filters). On the negative side, there is no sysex implementation (!), there is no pattern sequencer, and the FX are a bit weak (e.g. no vocoder and disappointing rotary). But apparently Alesis is working on those issues for their next OS.

I have not really used the sequencer part of this synth yet. This is first and foremost, a great synth. If you want to use just presets there are some great sounds coming from Hollow Sun that are made just for the Fusion. For me the four sound generation engines were the selling point. You can get really deep into the sound design with this instrument. The VA engine is very nice and the interface is easy.

The latest OS is 1.23 and it has been totally stable for two months that I have been using it. Alesis has very good customer support. You may encounter some complaints about the manual, and it is not the best. However there is an excellent 3rd party DVD from Sudosonic that is well worth the money. It is also available as a download and it will get you up and running in no time.

This is my favorite synth.

This is my favorite synth of all time. There are so many ways to make sounds! If you are interested in exploring different synthesis types or just want an instrument that is capable of a wide varity of sounds... this is it.

The controls are laid out in a way that is extremely easy to understand. There are tons of good effects and you can process external signals through the audio inputs.

The bang for the buck factor is really high on the Fusion. It is a blast.
