Dominic Taylor a hobbyist user from Antarctica writes:
The HR16 is a great drum machine I purchased mine secondhand in 1993 I wanted to buy a brand new one when they first hit the market but money was tight for me back then. My unit was manufactured in 1998. There is so much quality in this Alesis box, it has stood the test of time IMO it's sound and build design are good. My unit has taken a real hammering at gigs and parties - I have broken both the sliders (very 80's the sliders) I have "circuit bent" the sound ROMS which gives it a raw edge. It's still got the original 19 year old RAM battery. I will cry when it eventually dies. On second thoughts I will fix it and take it to my grave.

I always dreamt of owning a Roger Linn LM-1 Drum machine. Now I have this litle Lamborgini shaped work of art!:) Its quite literally "PERFECT" & so easy to use:)The Samples are 8 bit & Alesis use some trickery in the software that some how adds an extra 0 so its converted to a Hybrid 8 bit / 16 bit wonder machine! Why do I love it so much? Well, it just sounds musical!:) Many electronic things are simply not musical, but this is!:) A PC can never be musical as its designed for number crunching. Some guitars are not musical as they have been produced for mass consumption without pride or joy. This thing has been designed from the ground up to play beautiful rhythms & sounds that inspire & give the user great joy!:) Its allot smaller than I thought it would be & is a perfect little beauty!:) I payed £50 and would pay three time s that for another! & I'm certainly never selling it either:)!!!! Thank You Alesis!:)

this drum machine is a great old school drum machine. its cheap to own and it sounds very cool. you can make some cool drum kits with it and running it through out board effects is a lot of fun. so easy to use great for live realy steady and well reliable. ELECTRO is what i think of with this box. its winning some fans in the bender scene too not for me but still i can appreciate the benders. this box does have a nice electronic kick. i do think its limited but thats one of the things wich makes it cool. i dunno alot of electronic music these days tends to be concerned with being wierd for the sake of being wierd. this being said the alesis is good for just sitting on its flat face and boom bang chucking. great fun.

kiniradmod a professional user from germany writes:
one of the best cheap machines out there, i use it for straight forward beats (electo) and experimental stuff, set bpm to maximum or something around 230,set the roll function to 96/th .now record a lot of short patterns with roll pressed add some effects copy the patterns in different settings (tunning, voice) to another and you have some of your craziest wildest beats in less then half an hour;if you like to work fast ,if you like to work cheap or you need something that dive your sampler go for it;damn cheap this times, maybe buy a dead one for 10 euro/dollas repair it yourself, sure the rubberbottons have to be cleaned againgood luck, and please buy these fu...ing machines before i do

I've had them both (HR16 + HR16B). I've sold the HR16, but kept the HR16B.( won't sell it ) Didn't like the HR16 ( very flat sounds - boring ) The HR16B (black colour )is a much better machine ( great percussion-sounds, all detunable )- easy to use. Negative : the lack of support from Alesis 5 for the HR16B
