This synth is a beast. It can do anything you want it to do. Unlike most synths, you can't say what sound the Ion is particularly good at, because it's great at doing whatever you want it to do. You can forget the Nord Lead. This does a better job at a much better price. I think it sounds VERY analog and I'd tell anyone looking for a virtual-analog to buy one of these right now.

So my buddy plugs the output of the ION into a mixer board and the speakers have this almost 60Hz hum. I unplug the 1/4" cable and there's no hum. So I plug the 1/4" back in and unplug the power cable, the hum is gone.... BTW, all the CH inputs on the mixer do not hum.

I take it home, plug my big fat headphones in it and there is NO hum. So I do a little research and find out that the ION uses a "Switch Mode Power Supply" and those things can get cranky and finicky when it comes to loads and supplies.... Either there is a design flaw in the power supply, the actual power supply has a bad Capacitor (which I checked, it doesn't), or I'm dealing with a unique electrical studio situation.

Someone said Korg Z1 sounds better?! I don't think so. ION sounds analog, thick and raw in comparison. Don't get me wrong, the Z1 is in a class of its own - sleek and vastly powerful yet it sound thin and overprocessed next to ION. I sold my Z1 because I felt with all the soft synths I use it is an overkill because it's not really that much different...

i think this synth is a piece of crap the sounds are thin expect maybe 40 patches seriously!!the special fx are highly outdated, the instruments are thin and all the filters are lifeless except the moog imitation(figures)I hope the age of analog-modeling dies soon and people start developing new ideas. analogs and hybrids were great, analog-modeling is useless, synth companies out there need to come up with new developments like late 80's fm and vector synthesizers now that's progressing technology.think of it like this these legends died long ago : arp, oberheim, sequential circuits,edp...these synths had their own sound someone out there please design a new kind of synth.
