Wow nice board, exelent weith action keys, 100% GREAT BOARD

It�s a pitty!!!!! A friend of mine owns a QS8. So I knew the sound and action well, and certenly fits perfect to me. I was about to buy (thru Internet) the new QS8.2. Fortunately, I downloaded de manual from Alesis website and find out: IT HAS NO AFTERTOUCH!!!!. I think it has the best price-performance relation, but if I have to spend all that money in a pro 88 key controller (I don't buy one every year, of course) I would really expect it to have that basic and usefull function, as in all pro gear. I will try to find a used QS8.1 in good condition (it is not easy in Argentina!!). I think Alesis failed to replace the QS8.1 with this .2 version.

As the previous reviewer suggested, buy one, you won't regret it! No matter what you're genre of music. I'm into dance/techno and it more than does the job. I have the Dance Q-Card which really adds to my sound pallette. The drums are killer. Several kits to choose from, and I'm picky about my sounds. Deep kicks and awesome hi-hats. Killer bass patches too. I've owned several drum and groove boxes but I choose the QS8's drum kits and bass to compose my music. It also excels in creating lush synth textures and chromatic sounds too. It's easy to navigate and the the features you get for the money are quite extensive. Nice weighted keys make playing a joy. Being a techno -head I do wish that it had some knobs to play with, but, synths can't be and have everything. I own a Korg Z-1, RM1X, Roland JV-1080, Emu e64 Sampler, Moog Prodigy, running on Cubase 5.1 and it's the center of my rig. Couldn't live without it.
I'm going to give this synth a 4.5 because no board is perfect. But definitely thumbs up for this one!

I just received an email from an Alesis representative stating there isn't much of a difference internally speaking between the QS8.1 and QS8.2. The QS8.2 does not have the 3 aux outputs, a serial port and optical output. Nada. So, if you want these features, better buy a QS8.1 before they're gone. All you're really getting with the 8.2 is the silver-gray finish, 24 bit effects, and improved d/a converters, but hear you can't honestly tell the difference. So... I'm wondering why in the world Alesis didn't expand this board to 128 poly? Why in the world would you go through all the trouble just to change the looks. They dropped the extra outputs because they took a marketing poll and discovered most 8.1 owners aren't using them. So, that means they save a little dough on hardware and production with these new 8.2's. What's up with this silver keyboard trend?

I am a part time (weekend warrior) musician, and a home recording musician. The Alesis is by far the best keyboard per dollar, I have ever had. It is the cornerstone of all my recordings. Growing up as a piano player, I think Alesis has achieved the truest piano feel of any full size portable I have ever tried. (A quality that is a must for the true piano players). Since I have purchased mine a few years ago, the price has gone down by about a third. The Q-cards (expansion cards) have also dropped considerably. It is my understanding that these units will end production soon. I would strongly advise getting one soon. You won't be sorry.
