While the Alesis QSR is a very powerful synth, I can't say
the same about the CD-ROM that comes along with it: the CD is
mainly an add for software creators. It contains a lot of good
software but there's a drawback: these are demos... forget the
"save" option...

I'm on my way to buy it... 4 effect units with lots of effects... that's too cool!
Better than Roland JV-1080...

Alesis ... The name which stands for innovation, reliability and Affordability.
Their QSR, rack-mountable version of the powerfuls QS7/QS8, is TRULY remarkable.. It has every samples someone would need... The Pianos and Organs are only the best i've heard so far in a rack-mount Exp. synth ..not to mention the excellent strings, basses, Acoustic/techno drums and synth pads which are all part of the massive 16mb ROM waveforms of the QSR. Also, not to forget Keith Emerson's own modular synth spectacular Lead, pad samples (progressive-rock fans, watch out here!!). With 4 effects buses, 16 part-mulitimbral, internal wave memory exp. to 32mb via 2 (8mb) PCMCIA card slots ADAT digital I/O and serial cable connection for ultra-fast midi performance, you CAN'T go wrong. I've tried almost every other names like Ensoniq Mr, Roland JV series, Yamaha's and nothing and nothing came close to all of the QSR uniques features... I would recommend it to any intermediate/serious/power user out there who definitely wants a High-quality, Flexible and affordable exp. synth module. I would definitely buy it again, thats 4 sure....

This Synth has some TRULY wicked sounds. For the Price it cannot be beat. If you plan to buy this synth do not pay more than $660 for it... because there are many places that will sell it for more (One company wanted to charge me $780 for it). All in all it has GREAT built in sounds.. a great interface.. VERY well laid out backlit LDC screen... backlit buttons.... 2 8mb PCMCIA slots for expandability. Has features pourging out every direction. The Unit itself is REMARKABLY small... it is incredibly lightweight.. and the only thing you will notice in your rack is GREAT sounds! I cannot compare this to other Alesis products.. because EVERYTHING else I have is Roland (Unfortunately). I really like this.. and if there is anyone who already has a keyboard.. wants the sounds of the QS7 & QS8 without the 60LBS of the Qs8, not to mention the price burdon.. this is for you. It is VERY comparable to the Wavesation SR in that it is the Rackmount version of a VERY sucuessful keyboard. If you like what you've heard fofrom the QS7 or 8, or are just looking for a new WAY cool Rackmount module.. Look no further.. this is it! They wouldn't let me do it.. but out of five I think I give this synth a 7. Far above any expectations!

the sounds are very good but I am not impressed by the logic of the effects and sounds programming. I am constantly finding myself lost in a sea of variables trying to hunt down the one that will acctually do what I want it to do. I do not think the word "intuitive" comes up up much in the Alesis programing dept. They should have a look a the jap stuff....it may not sound as good but it is easier to use!!
