The s4 is a wonderful unit to say the least. I have had one in my rack for about 5 years now. The presets sound great. but you know what they say, it isn't the tools, it's the artist behind them. I did have a bit of trouble, in the beginning, figuring out how to store the mixes via sys-x, but soon figured the situation out. mark scarboro http://homestead.juno.com/mscarboro/index.html

I just got this today because I needed a good meat & potatoes, multitimbral mod for my sequences. I've heard a lot of down talk about the S4+. I am quite impressed. There are some excellent strings in there and some wonderful atmospheric washes. A suprising percentage of the presets will be useful to me... which usually does not apply to most units I get. The internal effects are gorgeous but then, I've always liked Alesis fx. I'm not getting heavy into programming this one as I have other boards for that. Great unit for the current price, tho. I give it a 5 for value. 4 overall

Whilst I no longer own an S4plus, I have fond memories ot it! It was the only main source of sounds I was using for a while (along with my Korg T3 and Boss DR660). It's more 'American' sound complimented the Korg very nicely! It was easy to get around for a single rack space module (except for working out the effects routing!!!!This was a nightmare) and it's manual was very helpful for a change. It did not excell at every kind of sound (lacked low end) and I would not use it as the only sound source in my studio but when layered with other instruments, it really showed it's own! I HATE EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLIES THOUGH! ALESIS PRO'S DON"T WANT THESE DREADED THINGS!!!!! Anyway I feel that the new owners of this module are enjoying it greatly just like I did!

I actually like this one... I've been using one for 3 years now and is actually quite satisfied with it. Maybe the presets aren't the best but with a little tweeking they really sound quite good. One of the best things are the effect unit. Good sound, good editing...

(just my humble opinion...)

YES PEOPLE I OWNED THIS MODULE FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP FOR A REFUND. THE REASON IS, MOST OF THE SOUNDS ARE LIFELESS AND BORING. MAYBE I'AM BEING TOO CRITICAL SINCE I REALLY DIDN'T SPEND ENOUGH TIME WITH IT, YOU KNOW ENOUGH TIME TO TWEAK AND SCULPT THE SOUNDS TO MY TASTE. SORRY MR. S4
