What a beautiful piece of equipment! Once you learn how to *really* use this thing (which isn't much of a stretch if you already know about oscilators, filters, envelopes, and LFOs) you can make some of the most gorgeous sounds you've laid ears on. Use it as a synth, effects processor for your other gear, and a vocoder all at the same time! 27 buttons, 32 knobs, modulation routings up the wazoo, full MIDI sync on anything that can be synced, and a menu system that goes deeeeeeep keeps me twiddling for hours and hours. Has anyone mentioned that changing *any* parameter on the machine sends MIDI data? Grab some knobs and get ready for full sequencer-automation. I can't recommend it higher!

Just got mine this weekend so I'm still in love. I perform live with an ASR-X/guitar/voice so I need something to vary the set a little. I think the Virus will add a lot to my performances. Seems like every pre-set is great. Got a Simmons tom sound by closing the filter on a synth tom preset. Been looking for that sound literally for years. I think I'll be sampling a LOT from the Virus into the X.

All I can say is that it's incredible. I fell in love with this piece the moment I layed ears on it. This synth really sounds like no other (well, maybe a little like the Microwave, but the Virus is better). And it is so easy to program; it even comes with some great, USEABLE factory patches (and I usually HATE presets). Really rich and deep sounds with more controllable parameters than you could possibly want. The quality of sound that this synth produces gives justification for it's use as a stand-alone. If you're into deep electronic-based music, BUY IT!

YES, THATS THE ONLY THING U NEED. I JUST WORK WITH AN VIRUS, JX-P AND R-8 MK II AND THAT`S REALLY ENOUGH TO MAKE REALLY NICE SOUNDS. WITH THE VIRUS U CAN CREATE ALMOST EVERY SOUND YOU CAN IMAGINE AND IET U HEAR SOUNDS NEVER HEARD BEFORE.

I think you should go out and buy this thing right now!

I tried all the virtual analog type synths on the market this year except for the Novation supernova. the SN and the Nord modular are more powerful machines than the Virus, but probably US$750 more expensive too. Those two aside, the Virus is best sounding DSP synth on the market IMHO. It kills the JP80x0 or the Yamaha AN1x, and I like the sound much more than a Nord Lead 1 or 2. Maybe the closest machine is a MicroWave from Waldorf. This is pretty good, but I think the Virus has better filtering.

For me the Virus has the most powerful sounds mixed with a great interface - it is a very live instrument and I had a lot of fun jamming with a friend 2 days after I got it. It is so easy and fun to program, new cool sounds just fall out of those speakers! I am so glad I waited and finally bought this one istead of any other model.
