That Steve Hunt guy kinda misses the point when it comes to the Axxe; I'm sure his mods are really swell, but if he wanted all that stuff, he probably should have bought a synth that does all that stuff. (Maybe I'm being too harsh-- he DID give it 5 out of 5...) I mean, for what the Axxe does, it's damned-near unbeatable-- think of it as a single-oscillator Odyssey. It's got more-or-less the same functions, so it's got essentially the same "feel." Just don't ask too much of it, and it will reward you with a myriad of mighty thumps, buzzes, whistles, and farts. And it really does sound unlike any other synth out there-- it kinda has a MOOG's colon-clearing organic rumble, with just a enough of a hint of a Roland's interstellar squawk thrown in to attract extraterrestrial tourists. (Of course, the sample-and-hold helps the transmission go through...) Because of the prices units go for, I would say that this is a perfect choice for the beginning analog-enthusiast-- but that's not to say that it holds nothing for the seasoned veteran... No, it's NOT a MiniMoog. So what? You can twiddle with one of these whenever you get bored with trying to find a sound on the Mini that someone else hasn't already made. And, as Graeme Roberts pointed out, you can always hunt down ARP's Little Brother and throw a little more fat in the broth. So yeah-- I kinda dig mine.
