It sounds like a dying cat so I must give it a 5.

I picked up an Odyssey on 01-08-01 and I'm amazed at the weird sounds one can create from this board...It kinda puts me in the mind of the effect sounds used in "Star Wars" and it also brings back memories of the golden age of arcade games such as "Defender", "Joust", "RoboTron", etc...My version has a black panel with gold lettering (perhaps 1975 or 76)...It does have the P.P.C. pads...Great board for adding analogue sounds with today's digital keyboards...I also own a Roland JV80, a Roland XP80, and a Roland EP 7 mkII...After I've done a sequenced song from the Roland's, adding in the Arp is iceing on the cake...Running it through an effects processor is very nice (adding chorus and reverb)...It's totally different than using digital factory presents that I've gotten used too... You shape your own destiny with this machine...Me like !!! PS: It's funny how the volume is on the right side (voltage controlled amplifier)... oops !!!

Michael Godfrey a professional user from us writes:
I had a White Arp Odyssey. They say they are the "sought after" types.

uh...okay...why....

The board sucked. I got it, was really disappointed, and eventually sold it.

It sounded thin, and the construction was like "old lady hatbox." You could stick your finger through the pressboard that was the body of the synth.

And those cheesy-ass plastic sliders that felt like crap. They'd catch as you'd move them up or down.

Nice, Arp.

After that encounter with an Arp instrument, I never wanted to play a 2600. Another cardboard press, with crappy plasic sliders.

The Odyssey is twice as better as a MiniMoog for half the price. This thing kicks ass. Enough said.

Just thought I'd post another couple of comments after re-reading these reviews. I'm still in love with my Arp and have since added a Moog Taurus II (same thing as a Rogue but with a fun pedal board instead of keyboard) and an Oberheim 2 Voice. And I would like to say that the Arp is still going strong and like it was somewhat stated below is an excellent partner with a Moog. The Oberheim seems to have a tonal quality that falls between the two.

If you are at all a fan of analogs, virtual or otherwise you really owe it to yourself to at least find someone who has one to get a chance to play one or just buy one for yourself. They just have so many strenghts, be it sound effects, bass or great leads the Odyssey can do it. And again, it gets a 5 from me.

Father Dougal? Could someone please e-mail me to explain that comment. I've never seen "Father Ted" and that little observation joke has just totally gone over my head. But anyway, love live the Odyssey.
