The DR670 is a great Drum Machine, and very easy to use. Despite what the one other reviewer wrote (who gave it a 2), recording IS based on your typical "press record and play" function, like most drum machines. Perhaps that person had a defective unit.
The only con is that the shift button makes it easy to incur the wrong function if you aren't pressing it hard enough. I once accidentally erased an entire song because of this, and I was angry enough that I threw my 670 and ruined its led.

this drum machine off the bat sounds awesome, the kicks the snares is right in your face, but the user friendly ness,.forget about it,it was like itwas designed by aliens ,not humans,.(seriously)if you are used to your normal rec.play for, patters etc.forget about it,.to record you have to maneuver your hands fingers in a very unatural way .to start any recording, after a day of having this, i took it back at guitar center,i could not believe roland actually messed up .like that big time..so i,m givingthis a 3,for the sounds only,if u see a boss 660,get that instead.peace
