I still use my DS 330 (bought in 1993 @ Guitar Center) - the only problem I ever had with it was that the internal battery died which cost about $100 to fix and I had to buy a new power chord. Other than that - it has been a workhorse over the years. I also gig with an EMU proteus and it's best piano patch isn't nearly as good as the Boss Piano 1. I also use the Boss Church Organ layered with synth samples from the EMU for Styx/Kansas type sounds. And the crowd and my bandmates still get a charge out of the Helicopter when we perform Another Brick in the Wall! Even if (and when) I finally break down and get a high quality piano module- I don't think I would ever part with this little gem.

The truth about this little devil from Boss is simple:Indestructable and still very reliable.I purchased it in ´93 and it somewhat surpassed all of my other gear!It was my very 1st piece of synth gear to give company to my ridiculously looking portable AX-1 keyboard-controler.One hard fact:As most reviewers here will admit;We got it in the 90´s,then kinda forgot about it,and then picked it up again.And that says about it all!A remarkable soundmodule that stood the test of time;Easy to edit(although it uses the horrifying 0-127 value notation,infamous by Roland,but hey this was the 90´s,o.k.?),easy userinterface(what happened to all later gear?),and a breeze to use live(if you got a little light mounted on top of it).Some of the presets might sound a little dated now,and it´ll probably gets you a bit on edge if you´re looking for some fat trancy kinda sounds,but if you´d pick it up now,you´d be able to choose for instance its´least attractive preset,tweak it up and down a bit,and you get something surprisingly wacky and fresh.Actually I can get such extreme and heavenly things out of this box,that younger and much more gifted programmers and synth-geeks are left with their mouths wide open,when I tell´em I got that out of something that was introduced 18(!)years ago...Mine was 2nd hand already when I bought it,´cause the seller got himself a stack of "new"gear.So many years later,his "stuff"has been overtaken by many things,but this tiny little monster can still get away with about everything!I gave it a realistic 4 out´o 5,because today it would have rotary-buttons and backlit display.Only recently,with some gear like the Waldorf Blofeld,you´d be back in the saddle again to compete with the big boys for a budget price,but for more than 15 long years,this was probably 1 of worlds best buys in synth world.period.

I bought a DS-330 in the mid nineties and foolishly got rid of it years later not realizing that I could never again have sounds like I did with the DS-330. My recordings with this module still amaze people to this day when I tell them that there was only a synthesizer used in the whole recording. I am still able to fool the best of musicians and tell them that there was a thirty piece orchestra in the background. I am desperately seeking another DS-330 Because I couldn't find anything better since then.

I bought my DS-330 in 1994 when I was playing with a rock/funk band. Until then I relied upon 4 keyboards, samplers etc to perform the range of sounds I need.
After buying the DS -330 all I needed was a sampler S-10 (or S612 with sampler cable to the Akai), and an analog keyboard (AX-60) and the DS-330.
The beauty of this module was it was designed with live music in mind, it sat neatly on any keyboard I was using and despite many drops, spilt drinks, candle wax and various abuse it never once failed me.
For some absurd reason I sold it around 1999 and have always missed it until now.
I purchased one off eBay about 2 months ago for $100 (still a bargain) and was surprised how easy it was to recall all the setting.
As most of us know the main thing the DS-330 lacks is a backlit display A few more nice features would include easy controler access and backlit buttons.
Apart form this I cannot fault it for the price, reliability and quality of the sounds.
Has there ever been anything that can match it for the price?
