This box is a surprisingly good module. I don't push the polyphony on it, but it has come in handy for a few sounds, including the Bandoneon in fat mode.
I generally now see these (and the Roland SC33) for less than $50US, at which point it becomes a must-buy.

I have been playing for 25 years and its the best sound module i have ever had the opportunity to own. Not only is it easy to run but about 70% of the sounds are good. I currently use a doepfer lmk3 88 keyboard to controll the DS-330. It works very well. If you want the very best live sound out of the module you do not want to use an amp. If at all possible go straight into the front of house board and then pump it back into the monitors. This works better if you have the capability of independant monitor mixes. My personal favorites are no 2 on the piano,the second patch on the guitar using the variaton to make it a 12 string,7-1 on the strings and 14-2 which is a banjo patch. I also tone mix 1-2 with 7-1 to get a really nice piano-string patch. I use a sub level of 61. Works great. Ialso wish the module was backlit. Dollar for dollar it's a hard module to beat.

i thought i'd never plug this thing in again until i read that you could tweak the filter settings with a computer editor. using sounddiver, i did just that. you need to assign cutoff to the wheel or a CC knob if you've got one, but then you are SET. the filter is very strong. even the first stupid piano patch becomes useful when you can sweep the filter. it doesn't save patch edits, so you have to save your changes as sysex to be sent everytime you power up, but no big deal. you can also tweak the effects route a little. i actually got the chorus/revreb loop to feed back on itself!!! it was really cool sounding, but i had to switch off the box to stop it. i'm sure people throw these away these days, so worth getting dirt cheap.

I THINK THE DS 330 IS A KICK ASS LITTLE BOX. GOOD FOR MOBILE PRODUCING. GOOD SOUNDS AND EFFECTS, ITS JUST A PITTY IT HASN'T GOT KNOBS TO TWEEK. I GOT A TR505. I PLUG IT INTO THE DS330 AND I GOT A TR 808. (SWEET). I GOT MINE FOR $50 (BARGIN). GOOD LITTLE BOX I REAKON. NICE ONE SEE YA.

I use the Dr. Synth as a sound module for a wind controller; the results are awsom. I play in a dinner club where the reviews of the realistic sounds of the alto sax and the flute are astonishing. I had considered selling this instrument and upgrading, until I heard other sound module that were more expensive but didn,t sound as well. For the price that I purchased the Dr. Synth,($300.00)some years ago it's proven to be a true tool for live performances
