The DS-330 module was a very good alternative choice when the

sound canvas line first came out on the market. All sounds are

not perfect, but the manual clearly states the most common and

useful key ranges to let the module sound natual. As long as

one stays within the key ranges specified, it sounds great.

Hey let's face it. If ya want great strings, Yamaha is better,

but if ya want great horns, drums, pads, etc., ya want a roland

module. It really depends on ones taste also. Also if you are

tired of your standard sound card sounds and you want a more

pro and realistic sounding source, then the DS-330 module can't

be beat! If anyone feels any different about this they can e-mail

me or anyone is welcome to my homepage at: www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/2109 This Synth Site is awesome! Thanks to the creator and all those

who gave input!

I am very pleased with my DS. I do feel that some sounds lack certain quality, but I can't realy compare it since I haven't heard too many other modules. Anyway, I think patch 0 (piano) and ensemble violins (49)are stunningly good. sound 30 (distortion guitar) is a laugh. generally I think it has a very crisp and clear sound, but this does mean that you have to spice up your compositions with lots of tracks if you wan't them to sound full. Or you could just pump up the (super) reverb and chorus options, but then things get messy. Try a phew of my compositions designed for the DS and hear how it CAN sound very full: The Nostromo MIDI deck

Peter McCombs a hobbyist user from USA writes:
I don't think you can get this little treat any more. . . However, the Sound

Canvas SC-33 is the Identical model marketed under the Roland name. This is a great synth for the musician on a budget. You get a full GM

compatible unit with some of the GS sounds, too. It doesn't include the MT-32

emulation of the Sound Canvas SC-55 (and up), though. The sound quality is, as

usual, quite good. I am using it with the Creative Lab's AWE-64, and actually

prefer the quietness and bass response that the DS-330 continues to produce. Another good thing is the "single" mode, which lets you layer and split your

keyboard (if you have one hooked up to the unit). This mode also allows a new

effect called "fat," which fattens the sound by adding slightly detuned octaves. The display is big, and readable (for such a small box, that is), though it is

not backlit. A great unit for the PC, or to tote around -- very lightweight and

inconspicuous (a real plus). A lot of sound comes out of this little box.
