Cool little sampler, my first. I use it to record backing stuff for my musical endeavors. I really like it. The lo-fi is great for drums and even vocal samples. It has hiss to it, so it gives a vintage tape feel to recordings. I have been recording guitar bits into a Boss Micro BR, then sampling them with the 202, then chaining it together however I want. I even sampled one of my cell phone ringtones and reversed it into the song. I love this thing! I would give it a 5/5, but it is a bit saddening that you can only use 4 samples at a time and that decreases if you are using effects or if the samples are stereo. Still, the amount of stuff you can do with this little box, particularly if you own a 4 track recorder, seems nearly limitless. I got mine for $85. Worth it.

Roland's first sampler is still a joy - quite basic but easy to use. The manual is still available, not from the main Roland site but from the UK one - www.roland.co.uk/Support/Downloads_Updates/eula.aspx?Asset=pdf/SP-202_OM.pdf

It was working fine for a few minutes...... and next thing you know.. I see an error message. And then, the delete button flashes........ and it's now dead. I got a good few minutes out of it, before it froze up on me. All my attempts to reset the memory are unsuccessful. Anyone know any solutions?

I traded a line mixer with a friend for this sampler, and I think it was definatly a good move. Withoug even opening the manual, I had this thing doing things that I've been looking to do for a long time. There are not a ton of effects on this, but if your an MPC user (not including the 4000 owners) the timestretch feature is BEAUTIFUL! All the effects work in real time.. turn the knob while the sample is playing and listen to the results (for mpc owners, this is a luxury). If you want more effects, just run your samples thru an effects processor and sample as usual. It's high pass filter is a feature missing from the mpc, but can now easily be added for a low price. I absolutly love this thing.. not because I own it, but because it's simple.. if you have no brains, you can still understand how to work this the 202. Editing the samples length is kinda wack, but I'm simply editing and dumping into the mpc, so it's no big deal for me. In conjunction to the rest of effects that I have, this is a nice addition to my studio.
