SP-202 is a way better machine imho. If you want easy sampling without problems, get the SP-202. They only cost about $100. You cant go wrong. Forget the SP303!

just writing about the sp303 i got recently.it's a fuckin' headache to edit the start& end point of a sample.and if you wanna save a lot of sample on the 64m sm card;you just can't browse them up (like an album cd when you want the track 7 it's easy to find on your cd player...fuck that)so just using it for FX.but gonna buy a red sound cycloops which is F###### good machine.if you can provide me with more info to about the sp 303 on the looping matter you 're very welcome!(the impression of being a wonker facing the learning of the use of this machine is gona be probably softened....anyway thanks very much to all!d.J. davidreynaud

Well i paid $230 for this thing, and I am quite disapointed. One for me its very hard to set the right loop points... and it REALLY makes me mad you cant save your edited samples.. so if you decide to tweak it more and dont like it u can go back to the one you did like... and i know you may say.. "just resample it as when you liked it" but that is quite a pain in the ass. cause you cant just copy and paste. and there is NO TRIM! (yamaha rocks for that) so you waste all the space after you set your loop points... unless you have ninja fingers, and can catch it perfect in a resample!

But.. i am new to these phrase samplers... not to synthesis... so that might me my problem... it will do what im looking for... to loop some things... and just throw in vocals/effects for others..

try it out... but make sure you know exactly what your getting... cause your computer is probably the best and most powerful sampler you have.

I'm sure it has been said, but keep in mind

-the sequencer is useless -changing speed only works well if within a few bpms (unless with drum loops in my experiences...one can speed them up alot without them sounding weird, but better not try and slow em down to much!) -the machine is sketchy, you record a sample at 170 bpms and it switches it to 171 all the time for no reason -the smartmedia works well -the effects arent that bad, and they have nice functions. I like the lo-fi and tape echo alot. personally I use the effects, but even if you dont its fun to play with or at least get an idea what the samples would sound like with effects. -editing is a breeze -havent sent it a ton of midi data, but midi works. however in my manual the notes it says to trigger pads are different than when I sequence using fruityloops (havent tried anything else) this could be my own problem -it is great and easy to use as a sketchpad for ideas, compact and portable as well. -and cheap. thats why I bought it. I'd honesty buy one again, but I'd probably look into yamahas equivalent more. I'm gonna buy a 202 cause it is utlimate portability/fun -it has a ton of memory with a 64 mb smartmedia. -the quality is very good in my opinion -a valiant effort, has its quirks, but is decent. the prime thing is its CHEAP. -havent used sequencing with it live yet, we'll see how that plays out.

I loved the SP-303 when I first got it. I beleived it was exactly what I needed until... I was using it live for the first time. I jump around a-lot and sometimes I will accidently hit 2 samples. On the old SP-202 you could just hit the botton again and the sample would stop. With the SP-303 it keeps going. I can't beleive it does that, I'm wondering if everyone elses does that or is mine messed up? Please e-mail me and let me know. If the SP-303 didn't have this problem it would be awsome. THANKS RHOB
