I use this little gem for the sounds. I have a program called Showplay on my laptop as a sequencer. I play MIDI's thru it and then push it thru a small pa. Been doing live shows with it for quite a while now. Great for just having the bass and drums only and then play guitar live and sing.

versatile machine, very complete, portable and enjoyable to use. A great fun as an hobby but still able to allow creation of professional back sound. We can use the preset patterns (200), copy them in to users free spaces (200)and edit them or just create our own patterns from root in the 4 tracks (drum and another three ie keyboard, guitar and bass). Still has the 48 presets kits of instruments and allows to create and store user´s ones too. Recording in real time or step makes it easy to create and prepare our music very confortably, anywhere. We can find on ebay now 2007 between 30 and 80 dollars complete with psu and manual

I've been a VERY regular user of the DR 5 (the "Magik Box") since good ol' 1996, and I must agree with what a lot of you have been saying here: in spite of the "cheepnis" of quite a few of the sounds, this little buddy is way more than just a toy. It's a great little tool for finding ideas, etc, but also has fantastic live potential, for either composing on the spot or using pre-programmed patterns (true, it is a little limited on the sound front, but we're talking a $100 piece of equipment here). If you want to get an idea of what can be done with the beats, check out our link (www.myspace.com/achb), all loops were programmed on the DR5 (and used live as is). Marcus, you mentioned its compatibility with the akai S3000, I must admit I'm pretty interested in how far their cooperation goes. Does anyone have any info on that particular point? Thanks, and keep using tha Magik Box! You'll love it, it's a way of Life!!!!

yeah i agree with Sherman Holmes, this drum machine has a lot of good sounds, it's not too hard and not too easy to use, but just like everything else, it takes time and this is my first drum machine too. For Beginners i recommend u try one of these before jumping into the MPC series.
