The DR-5 is WONDERFUL drum machine! I loved this unit. It is easy to use and has lots of good sounds. It's a good piece for beginners. I've made masterpieces on it. You have to master it just any other equipment. I highly recommend it! Once you make HOTTTT songs on here you're ready for the Akai MPC series.

A lot people don't like the dr 5 beause they thought it was a drum machine and lack the know how to get the most out of thier equipment, the DR 5 is a four track joy, and can run sampler like the Akai s3000 like they were made for each other, the hum you get from the outputs is expected on cheaper equipment and can actually and old school flavor if tuned right. If you ever spend time with it and become a pro you will love this thing.... it's not a toy...learn.

I am the new owner of a DR5 Drum machine and have yet the get background or drum machine back up sounds. Instructions are not working. this is not a drum machine it is a box of junck I think I ordered it thinking it would be like the old whirlizter side man drum maachine and it is a nothing. it will be on E Bay soon The instructions are close to stupit. it does not tell what to do or how to do it to obtain back up sounds.

My first drum machine. (POSITIVE)This machine is good for a beginner. I was making drum tracks in no time and learned how to utilize a sequencer. (NEGATIVE) Grew out of the machine within 2 months. Recommended for beginners, but you will want more power very soon. That's just my opinion, but it gave me the confidence to move up to bigger and better drum machines.

You can't do complex beats, that the only drawback, but if you midi it to a sampler you can make nice hip-hop tracks with it. The best 808 and 909's out!! Try it w/ an SP 303 and add the 303 effects with it and you will love it. I was about to but an asr x (sill am) but I just made a whole album with this setup. Even used the guitar sounds(kind of cheesy, but so am I!)on some tracks. If you want to make some music on a budget, get one for 150 and cop a sp 303 or sp 202. The 303 is better more fx but the 202 and the dr 5 are battery powered also.
