This is probably the best of the old Casio mini samplers. It's a more professional sk5 in many ways. It samples at a higher rate and, the 200 version replays in stereo. The build quality is high. It has a quite effective sequencer. The various synth sections can be mixed. Good(ish) pcm sounds. It fails when compared to the Yamaha VSS 200 in sound quality and features. Quite good drum sounds, though. I would imagine that these can be quite expensive to buy. They are very rare. There is a Hohner version called the PK 60. Look out for them at boot and garage sales.

I bought this beautifull mini-workstation in 1988. When I got interested in house-music, I tried to sequence my own tracks this one. Some of those tracks sound very good, some very bad.
The drum-sounds are very usefull in garage-house because the hats are liked the RZ-1. I sampled also the 909 bassdrum and 909 open high hat to get the house-feeling out of it. But the hats itself are very good for this music. And believe me Non of the keyboards that existst are as good as this one.

I got an sk-100 in 1994 on cape cod from a guy who had added a lot of circut-bent type connections to the back that i never did figure out or use. But I was able to use this on three complete tunes as the only instrument. This is a Masterful WORKSTATION for the Casio sound. The four samples sound OK if you stick to non-treble sounds and the looping/editing is a little better than have on the SK1. You can make your own drum patterns and fill-ins that can include any of the four samples (I always had a 909-BD in there). Then you can sequence the patterns with an auto bassline, auto chords, like 1000 notes of preset-tone sequencing and a few less notes of sample-tones. Two of the full song projects I did with this didn't even have overdubs. I regret selling it for $15 about three years later but I got a lot out of it. Wish i had one to modify these days. Really suprisingly good.

I was given this keyboard by a friend. I brought a Yamaha SU10 sampler and was dissapointed in it. He gave me this telling me I needant have wasted my money. OK so he wasnt right but this thing is great fun. Some of the rhythms that the samples can be played back are genius, well maybe just good then. I also have a Yamaha sampling keyboard (VSS 30) which is more advanced (it has more envelopes, but no drums). But it isnt half as much fun. Remember thats all this keyboard is about, FUN! It does serve as a good introduction to sampling though. If you see one get it, but dont pay much (I got mine for free and the Yamaha was just �3). Also I have a friend who uses the SK 5 for DJing!
