Gavin a professional user writes:
This little synth has its place in the world. You still hear it regularly being used on recordings of some quality. Nothing else sounds like it...except for other very old Casio stuff. A nice little artifact. The prices asked for these is quite steep but it does have a strong cult status. 35 has turned into 45-50. I know serious recording artists who still use and covert the VL. The thought of one always brings a smile to your face. The PT range are better value. Though they are also becomming expensive and rare. Far fewer VLs around than there used to be. They have been collected and few will be introduced back onto the market. They can still be picked up for a couple of pounds at car boot sales. If you're lucky. If you're not then good luck hunting. Buy as soon as you see one. Don't think about it and don't play games with offers. Others will pay what's wanted. I was talking to someone who payed 70 for a boxed example.

This was my first electronic instrument and it still works fine. I bought in i 1982 perhaps and I spent one whole summer playing with it and learning the basics of sound synthesizing. This is namely a real synth...well...at least you can manipulate the internal programs' envelope, vibrato and some other parameters and what you get is actually totally new sounds. What I like the most is however the quality feeling about the piece (no kidding). It's relatively heavy and it has a lot of buttons and a good display.

I bought one of these babies before i had even heard it.I only knew that devo had recorded with one.It was exactly what i had invisioned, the most soulfully cheesey instrument i have laid my hands upon.live i use an ob-xa and a prophet 600 but neither can do what this baby does.you got to love the 100 note early 80's video game soundtrack player.Whatever, you can tune the thing. You can program the thing. It's got a line out.best twenty-five bucks ever i spent.

Simion a professional user from London writes:
My friend, things have moved on. Nothing costs 15 quid nowadays. 30-35 is about the going rate for a good one. Most have been collected and the price is going up. Dead easy to use. Quite good fun. Good for working out your tax and VAT returns on. Handy to have about for the music as well.

Craig a part-time user from Manchester, England. writes:
A bit of a laugh. The VL don't do much, but can give you ideas. When people start asking more than 15 for them, the joke stops being funny!
