I got hold of a G2 Engine after a bit of searching as they're not in production anymore. I did give it some serious thought as to whether the editor would just confuse and frustrate me seeing as though I'm used to knobby synths (e.g. Access Ti). There was also the nagging idea that it would somehow cumbersome when working in the editor and Cubase at the same time.

Thankfully my initial concerns have all but vanished. The setup and integration with Cubase and MIDI etc took 20 mins from start to finish and it's very stable, no crashes or hanging notes etc. It's easy to tweek the editor like a softsynth when working in cubase and a right click assigns any parameter to my knobs on my MIDI controller so it can be hands-on.

The sound is amazing, bright, clear pads, basses that are rounded and have body, tonnes of weird FX. I used to have an Access Ti which has a great sound too but most of it was ear-candy that couldn't be used if you're not producing commercial dance or film scoring. The Nord G2 covers these areas and a shed load more. I make House and Techno and the G2 easily supplies original textures and material that the Ti still cannot touch even after it's millionth OS update.

I'm so happy with my little red box and it's staying put!

Very exciting synthesizer with vast potential, and the only synthesizer i have ever known that i will not sell; on the contrary to what most people write, it is very easy to use if you have even a slight idea about basic synthesis. If not, this machine is the way to learn. The g2 editor allows for more detailed, fun and experimental programming than any other given hardware synth, while the g2 hardware is beautiful, immediate and logical.

Sound is clean and very maleable, same pleasing tone as other nord synths. I like the G2's Modus Operandi; It has all the basic sound generation capability of a classic analog synth, but allows for extensive, familiar modulations or processing to make it a very unique, deep sound; this is in contast to many other modular type synths (max/msp, reaktor) which, although great sounding, have rather too many options, or far-out synthesis types, which can be overwhelming or reduce the streamlined impact of the instrument.

Nevertheless, i have been converted to the overall concept of modular synthesis by the g2, and probably cannot use another non-modular hereafter. The freedom is very refreshing; for example, i have programmed the signature punchy basses or hypersaw of the virus ti, or emulated the evolving wavestation sound. Moreover, the g2 can be an extensive multi-fx device for any other external gear; and its nice keys, and midi abilities means that it has taken over as the centre of my studio along with the computer.

The G2 is by far the most interesting, powerful and best sounding synthesizer I have ever owned (and I have owned quite a few). I am sure, if people knew more about it, everybody would want to have one. Sadly most people are afraid of the learning curve (I have been for a long time, too) - and not aware what they could do with this wonderful instrument - the presets alone are worth the investment ... but presets are not what you are after when you buy a modular system like that. And it is far easier to program this synth than most people think. But "this synth" is the wrong expression. It is not just one synth. This machine allows you to create as many different "instruments" as you want in a single box.

If you are into that, the G2 is as close as you can get to real analogue sound on any digital machine - software or hardware - with the advantage of a user interface that cannot be replaced by any software modular.

If you prefer additive synthesis and DX7 type sounds, the G2 can do that with the same ease and high quality.

The G2 is also a perfect MIDI controller and it can be used as an excellent sound processor for external sound sources ... this synth is really the Swiss Army Knife of synthesis.

If I would have to sell everything I own ... the G2 and my Rickenbacker guitar would be the two things I would try to keep at any cost.

As for me, it's just the only VA needed at my home studio! I have also TI, Radias and V-Synth, and i'd like to sell'em all to buy new reference monitors ) It's not easy-to-use but usable in any ways synth. I'm working with live sets also, and my gear at the moment - g2x+electribe mx-1+laptop with ableton. That's all, but no one told me it's suck ;) The only problem i found - it's not so clean with short release sounds, and some clicks occurs. And also there are some problems with FX - better use some external FX processors, like u should do with NLeads. But, anyway - best VA ever.

Just amazing period. Best synth on the market period. Reaktor is great of course. The Nord Modular just has simple yet powerful design to it that Reaktor does not match. Two diffrent ideas of what a software modular synth should be.

The Nord Modular G2 just seems more like an instrument. Amazing still after 3 years.
