Whoever says the NL3 doesnt sound good, has something with his ears, or has some brain damage. Even without any FX-box this synth sounds FANTASTIC. Dont even try to compare it, because it has its own sound. In connection with the REALLY easy interface its simply the best synth out there and more than worth every of the 2299Euro you have to pay for it at the moment. About the preset sounds...i guess the person didnt touched any knobs...i was able to tweak out of a simple preset-pad, some very amazing Vangelis-like FX-pads within a few seconds...beautfull, marvellous synthesizer!

This is the SYNTH!!! great sounds and easy to make your own, but do not judge the NL-3 potential by the poor programmed presets, just dig in and tweak yourself and you get reward!!!!!!

Tricky one this....A few years back the Korg M1 had virtually nothing on its interface - today the Nord Lead 3 virtually has the lot.As far as interfaces go I'd give it 5 out of 5.The sounds produced on these machines are of a very high quality indeed. You've got digital, analogue,FM all without effects.I would agree however that the sounds are that good it makes you think that there are some Chorus or phase effects there. Stone Mod wheel - wooden pitch shift - circuit boards clearly seen through the casing & only 4 part multi timbral are not in my humble opinion great features at all. This synth costs a lot of money and these gimmicks are unnecessary. The thing is simplicty itself to use but at the end of the day it all comes down to - can you play it with inspiration - dose it move you and most of all dose it sound good.In a nutshell - at a price -YES.

I have never worked with any Va'a before, and I found myself asking if I should buy something like this... I took the chance after demoing other synths like the virus Indigo, virus kb, waldorf Q, Andromeda, novation k station, novation supernova, and all of clavias others synths (mod, micro) Some of these listed are more "pricey" than the Nord 3. And I could of bought any of them, but I fell for the nord 3, and many people feel that Clavia will sell allot of these just due to the interface, which is true to an extent, but I felt that had to be ruled out in my case because I wanted a synth that suited my sonic pallet, I then realized that the interface is such a leap forward in the industry that I could not ignore it and decided to look at the whole system... It blows other synths out of the water, one of the best tests you can do at a store is listen to a Virus Indigo without any EFX on, and then listen to a Nord lead3 (which has no EFX) Nord wins. Also for people who dislike the Nords because of there lack of EFX, should realize that Clavia clearly has a philosophy about how they approach designing a synth and how they want the users to approach designing sounds, this is by far not a downside that the nords have no EFX, and it leaves the users responsible to chose there own EFX processors. I would rather have a synth that had all the work in the world put into it (like the nords) instead of a synth that relies on built in EFX like the others I listed... The Sinus Modulation that the nord3 engine uses for it "hand on FM" is clearly the most signifagnt synth hardware introduced and I bet the nord 4 or whatever's next will be based upon it. Allot of others feel that the Hammond Neuron or Neural (whatever) is a new form of synthesis! This is totally false and it makes me mad the Hammond clams that "its a new form of synthesis" actually its quite old and the reason its being reintroduced is because its cheaper to make the thing now, before it would of been far to expensive per unit to make. But otherwise I love my Nord3 and plan to buy a rack unit soon.
