My Radias is in the shop for a pot repair (tweaked the cuto-off way to much on filter 1). So, had some quality time again with my Nordlead3 and have fallen in love all over again. The sonic possibilities of the 3 are amazing and it sounds so sweet !!!! The arpegiator which has been implemented since 1.2 is just awesome since you can make some cool sequences with it. But the sound, the sound !!!! For a synth which lacks effects it still continues to amaze me. The sonic sculpting options are endless and as all Nord synths it has been build with the utmost care and attention for detail and materials. Of all the equipment I have owned over the last 30 years this is without a doubt my number 1. A real modern classic. If you find one - grab it !!!!

I recently purchased a second-hand Nord Lead 3, and I'm so impressed by the easiness of the programming and by the amazing sonic capabilities! To be honest the presets are not that fabulous, but as soon as you start tweaking the knobs you can get very rewarding results.
Comparing the Nord Lead 3 with the other VA synth I own (Access Virus C) I find the Nord Lead sounds sharper and better defined, with some sort of "surgical" approach. Moreover the sound programming of the Nord Lead is definitely easier for achieving what you have in mind.
Initially I was a bit skeptical for the lacking of internal effects, but after playing for few hours I found out the sounds are simply amazing with no need of further effects or artifacts.
All in all a great VA synth with its own - GREAT - character. Strongly recommended to anyone into synth-pop, ambient, industrial, techno and trip-hop music styles.

I dunno why some folk are saying that the NL3 sounds thin, maybe those who critise the NL3 may try and programming it before they critise it, compared to the NL2 and NL1, the earlier Nords may be rawer in the way of it sounds, I used to own the NL1 but I prefer the NL3 by a mile, but the NL3 can excel itself and you can mould it into any analoug synth sound with a of programming I have been programming synths for over 20 years, and the NL3 can sound, like an ARP-Pro Soloist, a Moog, a Jupiter 6 and 8, an Elka Synthex, a Prophet 5 and a Oberheim....well what Im getting at its great at re-creating any other synth, but the NL3 does not have a real identity of its own. But it does the job well, and it can sound so organic and full of life. The interface is fantastic and the NL3 screams playability. Its a joy to use and I would not be without it in my studio, but I would go as far to say this is the only analoug synth you will ever need.

Sound very organic and analogic vs Nord Lead 2 . Good filters , only 2 oscilators , snif !! ... but the cure ? the STACK function !! I love this button , stack up to 24 x 5 virtual voices and launch in a single keystroke! Overkill!!!!! Aghh...
