I've had the expanded rack version for almost 2 years. Overall, a great synth. A pretty versatile raw-ass patch factory. The best thing for me is the character of the patches you make. The character is always distinct. The Nord EXCELS at leads(unison!!) and crunchy funk. Personally, I don't especially like the bass sounds I come up with but that's more because of the nature of sound I'm looking for-definantly NOT a limitation of the synth.

I love knobs so the Nord hits the spot for me. However, while tweaking knobs, there are no leds or indicators as to the value of the parameter(some knobs don't even have hatch marks or numbers!). I believe this was remedied on the Lead2 & 3.There is actually a code that will turn the led display into a value counter-sorry I don't have it handy. Oh well, pretty minor anyway.

Ok class, let's sum it up- PROS- straight forward, versatile, hands on, superb sound, ok patch memory(40 without pcmcia card), rock solid CONS- "virtual" analogue(does anyone really care?)

Props to sonic state for such a helpful resource! *NASM

i have had my voice expanded nordrack for couple years now and it is the most vital synth in my gear. everything is flexible, bugless, easy-to-use, no menu shit, quality build and the most important thing: it sounds great.

many reviewers are talking about the new groovestuff etc that they are "intuitive". well they probably haven't tried out clavias products.

It's massive. Very big harsh warm fat you can use all the clichés here girls and boys. The nord lead is brilliant due to the price $US500 used, easy of use and controls over 20 knobs, and most of all sound. I have used samplers like the EPS, emax 1, drummachines,MC 303, software synthesis reaktor, ts404 ect and have felt,, well, distant from these machines. (Yes-soft synths are machines and valid comparisons in contemporary electronic music). Sick of crappy interfaces, crashing software and cold sound of my soundcard, I decided to grab a nord lead rack. It’s innovative due to the classic analogy design. Yes the sound does have a digital side to it, but this I believe makes for an interesting sound base with the combination of warm analog and cold digital. I feel the nord lead is perfect for my music namely techno and electro. Making exciting and progressive sound is an electronic credo and the nord lead pushes this into further territory.
