To be honest about this device,it can sound very close as the original minimoog,but its has some strange things in it,wich hold you away from the original Mini,first the volume is hard to set for each preset/userpreset,the volume knob is not independent,i wanted to have a "overall" or independent volume knob,like al "analoge vintage" synths have,the same is with the 2 velocity knobs for volume and filter. 2.the poly/mono mode buttons are dangerous to use:if you do it not right you select a preset or user preset:gone is al your work and tweaking;you can start al over,this had to be a independent knobs or buttons(do i need Poly on this device? most of the time i switch to Mono,like the original mini;yes i am a purist;-) 3.its hard to get some LFO,sometimes i hear only "clicking" sounds,i do not know of the real mini did that to. After some time a did create some very nice Mini moog sounds,like Klaus Schulze used in his music but its hard an sometime frustrating to get them,the sound quality is exceptional and really awesome,the filter is a Killer,trully amazing and very authentic to the original mini,cant believe al this power comes from such little box,very glad i bought one,if you like the MiniMoog and always wanted one(they are extremely hard to find and very expensive),then this is your choice,it comes very,very close to the original! Besides al of that i think its worth a 5;considering also the price and the enormous amount of synthesizer power you wil get with this little box,you cant go wrong with this! (I bought mine for 350 euro secondhand)

Stunning synth and it does sound like a Mini if you want it to -I sort of get SneakyAliens comments about a plastic sheen but the term plastic has negative conatations it just sounds a bit brighter than a real mini thats all. This synth is awesome and in my opinion is better than a minimoog.Why? It has memories is midi equipped and does not drift out of tune and is more reliable and the main reason is it is polyphonic. Imagine being able to play chords on a mini,well now you can. The editing software is great and comes with some cool presets for you to tweek away and store. I love this synth and i defy anyone else not to like it it is so amazing. I do understand the feeling of making tracks with a vintage synth that has history but really all that matters is the sound and the Minimax will not dissapoint if you are after the sound of a minimoog without the exspence and hassle of owning a real one. Also this absolutely blows away the VST software emulations of the mini it just makes them sound weak and tinny. This Minimax is the best emulation you will get and the user interface is awesome. 5 out of 5.

I have to disagree with Sneakyalien on this one- This does definitely have the tone of a minimoog and all the programming is all there just like the real thing but with the benefits of midi,memories and stable osc's. I think if you put this next to a real Mini you would be able to tell them apart but in the context of a mix you would be hard pressed to rell the difference. A real mini has a denser slightly bigger and less bright sound but how many times have you tried to make a real mini fit in the mix only to have to tone down the mini sound. The Minimax just fits in a mix and does not overpower but delivers all the balls and depth you would expect. Sure it is nice to stand in front of an antique and use it to create modern music but at the end of the day its the sound you use a mini for and the Minimax has those tones in spades.
I would not hesitate to buy another minimax it is such a cool bit of kit. 5 out of 5 no problem. If you cannot afford a real mini you owe it to yourself to buy one of these synths. Superb.

I have to say this does not sound like a minimoog-I prchased it sat with it and whilst it seems an ok synth there is no way on this planet it sounds analogue. To my ears it sounds plastic and exactly what it is a VA. There is no getting away from the fact that it just does not sound like a mini its to clean and sounds like bass when the eq is cranked up and just seems to have a plasticy sounding sheen over it. I compared it to my moog source and the source just blew it away no problem. I have sent it back to the shop and honestly won't miss it. Its probably good if you have never used a real moog but put this through a decent set of monitors and its shown up for what it is a plastic sounding wannabe. I even did not like the dials they used it just feels cheap and plastic. lesson here is if you want a moog buy a moog and leave these toys to people who don't know any better.

Since I cannot find a page for creamwares arp emulator I will post here. This is an absolute amazing recreation of the arp odyssey. I have the klangbox version with the remote software. This sounds much better than the software version as I have this and this blows it out the water it just sounds so real you would wear a real arp oddyssey was in the box. It also has the minimax filter built in which can be activated at the flick of a sotware switch. Superb product I will be buying the minimax trust me you do not need to buy a real odyssey this is it. minimax here i come.
