I have been having trouble with the volume output on my CZ1. I have tried trs and standard 1/4 cables, both high end cables. I've even raised both osc volumes and opened the release portion of the envelope all the way just to get it louder. It stil outputs quite low, I want this thing to bang out some power. What am I doing wrong????? Please somebody help, I really like this synth's sound but it sits on the sidelines due to this problem.

Peter Kadar a professional user from Toronto, Canada writes:
I got one of these off Ebay primarily because it was one of the first synths I fell in love with when I was a kid, but was too young to afford at the time. Sort of a way of avenging myself, I suppose. In any case, this synth still sounds as funky now as it did almost 20 years ago. It's tone quality lies somewhere between the DX7 and analog synths. It has a kind of crustiness and cheesiness to it, but can also capture the vibe of those old 80's synth bands, like the Thompson Twins or Erasure.

The keyboard has a fast, light action that feels great, nice aftertouch, and is pretty easy to use thanks to the army of dedicated menu controls. If you experiment, you can get some fat tones out of it that respond dynamically to your playing. You can layer and split sounds across the keyboard, and disable MIDI from a front panel switch, which is handy for controlling external gear.

I know this board will never be considered a classic, but it's actually a pretty damn good, unique piece of gear that nicely captures the vibe between FM and analog synths. I can't wait to bring it on a gig and surprise people who will misjudge it simply because of the name. A secret weapon if ever there was one!

I love this synth. I wished that Casio had abandoned their Casio tag and created a new one as this may put some people off this unique range of synths. (Vince Clarke didnt care though)

With modulation, glide and aftertouch this 16 note polysynth realy brings alive the CZ sound. It was never intended to do battle with the DX7 or JUNO's of this world, but sits somewhere inbetween. With 16 DCO's that are easier to program than the DX and more able to create bells and harder sounds than a Juno, this synth is worth picking up. Was originally 999, but I bought one for 50.00 all becuase the lady who owned it, never saw it as a synth, but yet another CASIO, like a 1000P. How wrong she was.

I now have 2 x Cz101 and its big brother alongside more contempory analogues. Worth getting. Keyboard is okay and midi is good. Chorus makes it sound as proffessional as a DW8000, only warmer and if you delve into its complex 8 stage envelopes over the DCA/DCW you will be awarded with some very unique sounds. Dont worry as there is no PWM as the Detune and range of waves offered still create lovely string and choir pads.

It also looks good too.

Does sound slightly different from a CZ-101; bigger but perhaps not quite as tight, slightly different envelopes. Midi timing's also a little better, grooves better with a sequencer than a CZ-101.
