Salvo is right - the memory atrophy when you don't have D-cells in it produces some wonderfully weird patches with parameters that are off the scale. A good way to get those strange sounds that no human could possibly intentionally create. Got one that sounds like a fly getting swatted - bzzzzweeepthwapawwwwzzzp! amazing stuff. old synths like the CZ and the Chroma Polaris II are good for their quirks.

It`s not buggered mate, you`re supposed to leave batteries in it to keep the patches

This little Keyboard, one of My best Cheapy Keyboard purchases. It's great form making really weird squeaky sound effects. But mine I think is broken. Whick kinda makes mine even more special. The user ROM is very volitile, so If I program a patch, then leave it off for a few days, the sounds has mutated into a weird scraping beast all it's own. Also all the parameter Ranges are screwed. Some of the Envelop settings are represented by Weird LCD Shapes instead of Numbers (maybe mine is an alien modified version), and the Bitch bender ends up in a range that bends from both ends of the human Spectrum. So this thing makes a wild Noise Lead synth! Use it all the time Live.

Got one for free when I did some studio musician work for my friends new album. The only Casio I don't hate. Very unique sounds. I use it mostly for FX and some lead (remember Erasure's Chains of Love lead line?). It has cheapy keyboard (use it as a sound module), memory can be very volatile (load your patches with a sequencer/librarian), sucks if used as main keyboard (kicks butt if used as a compliment to your MIDI rig). Definately worth it. Get it before they become trendy and expensive!

Ahh... the Casio CZ 101...I'm tempted to say something bad about this little bastard... and yet, It was one of the VERY first keyboards I ever owned...got it from this cool drummer with a band called pale hero in 1990... Yeah this little guy was very limited, yet i did manage to come up with a sorta cool early '80's solo when I midi'ed it up with a 360 midi bass. The keys were pretty small and the sounds were,well...pwm digital...Okay little guy...
