Agree and there is no shitty membrane like the CZ1000, it has proper buttons that move. the Power saving feature can be switched out (it`s on the RH side). it also makes great grungy elec guitar type noises better than anything from this era (and better than most S&S boxes too).

Hard dance basses and weird sweepy thin pads are its forte`. running off batteries for any length of time and making big wide pads are definately out.

Mini keys, annoying power saving feature, crappy two line LCD, lousy editing, 16 user patches (32 with the cartridge) and totally superb sounds.

I got mine for free (sorry Ed - there is one cheaper) because all the keys were busted so its just a MIDI slave. I love this thing. There are a wealth of patches on the 'net so programming is something I do very little of.

Worth the asking price alone for the cheesy organ sound that was the mainstay of a lot of late eighties British house. Also of note are the punchy basses you can get.

These tend to be cheap so if you can find one, buy it. If you're into dance music you won't regret it.

Arp a part-timer user from England writes:
A great little synth that is incredibly cheap. The small keys and tiny size give it a cute appearance, although it's quite a powerful synthesizer. Certainly, Phase Distortion synthesis is a lot easier to use than FM, and I would rather have one of these than a DX7 or any of its contemporary 'serious' synths. It's similar in some ways to the other 101, Roland's SH101, in that it's small, handy, wearable, and more capable than it appears (the noise and ring-mod are big helps there). Of the presets the electric pian, organ and strings are excellent. Only the volatile preset memory (which erases itself swiftly), and the relatively high noise level go against it.

Richard from US writes:
This is a great synth and they're pretty easy to find dirt cheap. It's way easier to program than most of the digital synths that I've seen from the eighties; no cryptic menues to dig through, and most of the parameters are reached with one or two buttons. The envelope curve is way better than my DX, and it's easy to crank out usable sounds on this thing. I got mine for a hundred bucks and it's worth probably twice for the amount of use that I've gotten out of it. and the portability is great.

hi, another way te get around the autoshut-off is to use a 12 volt adapter instead of 9. keeps it on...
