I got one of these just the other day and I love it! They used to have them all the time and I never was really impressed cause well 1: it was casio and 2: like most synth, the presets suck. Now that I've started to get the hang of it, I've realized what amazing and suprisingly punchy sounds you can get outta this thing!

got mine in 1985, my first ever programmable keyboard. i still love the envelopes on it - lets me do some wildly evolving pads, albeit with only 4 note polyphony. great for basses and monosynth sounds, especially with the "tone mix" function which lets you stack 2 patches (essentially a 4 oscillator monosynth). really cuts through on the bass end, suprising for such a little thing. hundreds of free sounds on the 'net as well, most of them very interesting indeed. mine has an internal modification from a company called BLACET RESEARCH called the INSTAMOD, lets you add modulation / vibrato with a ribbon controller (cheap piezo ribbon but replacable with radio shack nearby), again great for basses, especially those deep thuds. some decently cheezy electronic percussion as well. not analog sounding, but i will tell you that nothing else out there sounds quite like it, except maybe casio's own VZ line, which have more of just about everything but are insanely difficult to program (very like the DX series, in fact) and don't sound all that much better than the CZs, really. if you can find one of these, definitely worth picking up for $50 or less (new in 1985 mine was $125 - stunning!) don't expect to play it from the keyboard, though - use it as a module and you'll be just dandy.

This is one of my fav synthezisers.
I love the way it can produce some bass-sounds that will make the
fm-basses sound like toys.
And for the price (around 80 dollar), this is a bargain!.
Well, i love it, and Vince clarke likes it.
What more can you ask for?.

Traded in my ibanez guitar for it. I dig the sounds (once I edit the hell out of them), great GOA-TRANCE sounds. Allso dig the tiny little size of it(my studio is rather small). VERY easy to edit, fun to play. One of the ONLY early digital synths I actually like!! But what I don't like is the APO (Automatic Power Off) switch on the side doesn't work properly. Even when the switch is to the "off" setting the unit still shuts down...so to get around this I got to edit, sequence and record it in a hurry. but oh well. still a GREAT little synth
