While I really like the CZ101, I can't understand why Casio made the keys small...i mean, basically it seems as if it's the "children's" version of the CZ1000. I owned a CZ101 for years, but I never was quite able to take it as seriously as my other keyboards due to its 'mini' keys. When I bought it, I was not aware of the CZ1000's existence...had I been, I would have "saved" up for that..(How much did Casio save itself in plastic cost with those small keys, anyway??) Thankfully, I have recently been able to upgrade from the CZ101 to an Akai AX-60...(Similar sound, real time sliders, FULL size keys.) The 101 rocks, but those Small Keys are an insult...

Excellent sounds from this "cheap" synth the large envelopes and modulation can make some pretty cool analog type electronica pads. I use mine in a MIDI setup and love the basses and effects. If you don't like to program there are patches available from Kid Nepro.com or several sites on the net. Does anyone have a copy of the data sheets for the factory patches - they were supposed to come with the manual -- I have the manual but would like the original patch data for completeness e-mail your comments

whoops!! wrong rating....from the last review. By the way, if You do not like the keys, use it like the many people in these reviews; as a module. If You want to go for more, try finding a CZ-5000 however, it is not as compact and I cannot surmise if it runs on batteries ; P

To continue from my last review, I think this would be a perfect synth to purchace if You do not want to pay for a transceiver to Neptune? If You have the patience to work with the 24-segment envelopes, this synth can bring out very evocative and avante garde perfomances. Even if they do not sound analog, the creativity behind the textures are exceptional such as the EMS VCS3, AKS and the Korg PS-3300.

Borrowed a friend's once. Must have one! Transient, alien, intergalactic flatulation noises, Rf/fm/shortwave with keys. If Nikola Tesla made a synth, it'd be the Cz-101,1000!
