One of the most analogish digital synths to date and responsible for solid basses heard on hundreds of house records to date - a little more time needed than analog to get sounds just right, but it comes up with the goods if the time's taken to properly explore and program. Substantial, weighty and dense sound, not as thick as analog but with a digital tightness and somewhat static, sterile quality. With that proviso, it's punchy-some of the best acoustic bass emulations i've heard if not the best-bass on the Rick Astley cuts pretty damn good! Hard to do without even with analog synths on hand because it's a nice contrast. Somehow it's rewarding to spend some time to find some excellent sounds in something so toylike in appearance - lots of untapped potential under the hood if the time's invested.

You can get some surprisingly good sounds out of this little synth. It's never going to rival a Korg Triton, but has charactor. Some superb bass lead and guitar chop type sounds can be achieved. and it costs next to nothing these days...

i dont know why people dont like at all this excellent machine. U can get lot of Yamaha DX configurations with the ring modulator!!!!...and its much more versatile!. I ve "people says decent" synthesizers like moogs, but believe me...the casio cz101 is better!!!! Very sustancial sounds..Excelent for Drums, Bass (just use pitch envelope with a very short decay)...and of course...lot of crazy sound only u can get from a cz101! Very portable....very cheap.....oh! i falled in love....

I love my little CZ101..got it for 80 bucks @ Daddy's Junky Music. I have made some of the sickest bass and leads with it..try it with a bass micro synth and it kicks some serious a#$!! but now the damn thing flashes and powers off after like 2 min, unless i use it as a sound module with a contoller kyb anyone out there now why? or anyone out there fix these things, i tried to get into myself but casio made the case almost impossible to get into...anyways if you got one keep or if don't GET one NOW!!!
