I had a CZ-5000 for a couple of years and ended up giving to a friend due to lack of space in the studio

The CZ employs a synthesis technique that at the time was rather unique and somwhat ground breaking - correct me if im wrong but i belive many Virtual Analogue synths use sine wave phase distortion.

The CZ is capable of some very amazing sounds if your prepared to program it, and there a few tricks to get nice analogue [style] filter sweeps out of it.

Oh yes. this must be the ugliest synthesizer ever, at least mine. it has broken keys, it is painted with all kinds of colors, it is heavy and it sounds... wonderful.

the analog hype is just stupidity, there is nothing more beautiful than the 'vibraphone' preset, and there is nothing more violent than my patches. it can be heard in the songs "rectified" and "we have been waiting for your return" by the jasmine theory at http://deck13.nu/jasmine

i love this synth. will never sell it [especially since i wouldnt get any money for it...] i have got to get the cz-101 , it looks so nice. although, the lack of filters makes me cry

Just picked it up for $140 Can with a RAM cartridge. I use it as an alternative to my DW8000 and TG55 (which has got to go - talk about crappy presets! and Yamaha has the worst editing structure - maybe the SoundDiver shareware I downloaded will help it) It has a unique sound once I start to program it. However I have looked and looked, and looked some more but can't find any patches or an editor/ librarian. Temple CZ is a dead link and so seems everything else. The reveiws that refer to all these great programs are only a few months old...what happened? Anyway, would love to know how to a)transmit on another channel b)make it mulitimbral (I know there's something about Poly and Mono mode but it's not intuitive to me) c)can you specify which memory it should go into on the RAM cart or does it use the first available?

d)The MIDI window display looks like this: CH 1 (1) what is the number in brackets for? is it to assign number of voices to use? I think the machine is supposed to have 16 voices total e)how do I specify the patch for the other channels to use? f) does anyone have a manual? I keep reading you don't need one but the midi part has me stumped so far (mind you I bought it last week)

I recently downloaded a GREAT patch editor for my DW8000 (amazing synth) and would love to have one for the CZ. Still have to try Sound Diver.

I agree with the sentiments that the presets are mostly unuseable unless you want to sound like a cheesy 80's cover band...but who uses presets?

I suck my patches out into my PC to keep them safe, just download the CZ Patch editor (find it using google) and keep them on your hard drive. That way you don't have to muck about with the cartridges or tape deck malarkey and can save huge numbers of patches. Perservere, there are some cool noises to be had...

I just got mine 3 days ago, haven't slept yet ;) for what comes to about US$180. I should have haggled for lower... but its an ACE machine! Ive been playing with Rush style sweeping pads, chimey FM'ey bla bla...excellent complement to a VA/analog oriented setup....everyone needs a little digital! Just a 4 cause i could have gotten it for less...no reflection on the box itself. BTW does the mod wheel transmit CC's? It prolly sucks as a controller for my softsynths but im gonna use it for now..thoughts?

Can anyone tell me where i can find data cartridges on the net? a manual would be nice
