I have now a 130 module Eurorack synth, that is 75%Doepfer. And I would say that the Doepfer is excellent in many aspects. It´s CV sources and CV processing is very good,as well as some audio modules, as the low pass gate. But when it comes to filters and VCOs, I think it is better to go for Plan B or Analogue Systems. Those VCOs are less stabíle, but sounds better. And both fit in a Doepfer rack. If I known three years ago what I know now, I have bought all VCOs and filters from other fimes, and all CV modules from Doepfer. Per

This is the analog modular system with the highest performance/price ratio. Doepfer is to be praised highly for producing these modules.
One of the most notable points is the almost exponential development of the A-100 system over the past years. The number of new modules that has been released is impressive, as is their quality. Therefore, do not judge this system based only on older revieuws of the early basic systems BS1/2. The quality of the new filters (A-108, A-101-1, A-106-1) is outstanding compared to the competition. But also the choice and versatility of the (CV) control modules, e.g. the A-149 is unprecedented.
The compactness of the Doepfer A-100 system is also a big plus IMO. If one finds the space between the knobs a little too tight, consider placing some blank panels in your system.
Another good thing about the A-100 is that it can easily be used to complement old and new (analog) gear.

I'm a novice to modular synthesis, so the A-100 Basic System 2 struck me as a great introduction to the fine art of wire swapping. I've owned the gleaming silvery boxxe for 2 days, and I can see growing old with it. In fact, I will be adding a second portable case next month.
The purpose of a modular synth is, for me, odd noises. The Doepfer delivers. It seems well assembled, and the manual is great. My main and only complaint is the jacks; a trifle scratchy and sometimes requiring jiggling the plugs to get a full connection. I can live with this, especially since the system is nice and compact. The knobs are nice and stiff and provide the right amount of resistance. Oscillator FM is my favorite thing right now, and I'm having a ball with mixing waveforms to route into the CV jacks.
Stay tuuned...

After one year, I'm always impressed by the dynamic of the sound. I know that the term "fat" is always used and abused but believe me it is.

I never go for reviewing on the net but this is a very special case.
It's analog,instructive,versatile,creative,fun, goodlooking,solid as a tank, affordable........ and addictive.
DIETER YOU MADE IT,the modular is back in a very crafty and trustworthy way.
Not to mention the good ol'way of purchasing the modules. No box,no book,no warranty,no stickers,no standard industrial presets......just a module wrapped in a paper bag with a bill in my pocket. Feel like a kid again!
Maybe electronic musicians will feel the need of knowing, learning and exchanging again.Even my five year old daughter is getting a good kick out of it,she just flips on that vocoder.
For professionals,hobbyists,modernists...... for everyone.
BACK TO THE FUTURE!
Marc.
