Just bought emu64 ultra had akai s2000 for years novice to emu any tips would really grateful on what software to use with it,changing my sound libary of akai to emu Many thanx (",)

Well, there are pros and cons to this device. I like the conversion process in regards to the analog to digital conversion(my roland s-760 is better tho). I love the filters and modulation routing possibilities.
cons: I cannot stand for the crappy model logo on the front panel. i dislike the LCD and the inner interface that it presents. It is illogical at times compared to the great s5000s. The low budget graphics and text within make me question the exagerated prices e-mu charges. It just looks plastic from the outside..sounds good in important areas though thats it. a typical company..

i have an emu 6400ultra sampler and i love it!!...it took me a long time to figure-out how to use it but i finally figured it out by reading the 418 page manual 15 times(lol)....before i bought it i compared prices and specs verses an akai(s5000,6000)..i thought the 6400ultra was a better buy..it just seems to have a lil more of everything..i also liked the idea of adding options when i think its time to upgrade it(if ever)and make a monster sampler..in the beginning i had some os problems(freeze-up,crashes)..but now i have eos 4.6 and havent had a single problem yet!..i like the idea of emu doing their best and working out the lil bugs in their system, i think they have really improved it and it works great..even though i thought it was good with eos4.10.. my system works best by editing my samples with wavelab 2.0 and sending my samples scsi to the sampler..and then i use sounddiver 3.0 to adjust my filters,cords(emu term),and effects.. then sequence with my computer..and i love it!..i suggest never using the floppy disc to load samples..it takes forever!!!! i only use it for updating eos with new versions...(maybe a zip drive there woulda been a better idea)... but this sampler is a keeper,and i think i made the right choice in buying it..it is kinda pricy but its worth every penny(well except for the emu sample cds that comes with it..yuck!)..i also compared it to the new soft samplers that are out now(halion/gigasampler)..those things are terrible..filters sound like sh*%..the 6400ultra is the way to go if you want to sound good and make some real music..

All the people who say "this is all you need" are right!
I know people who've had good careers in dance music, using little more than this box (in fact, even the non-ultra version), an ST, a compresser, and some basic FX.
You can do your straight-up sampling, like, take a funk loop/whatever, & play it back faster... or chopped up, but it's the synthesiser possibilities which are the most amazing. With enough work, you can build instruments out of anything. I built a drum'n'bass style evil bass sound out of a radio presenter's 's' sound last night.
If you've any concept of how a synth (analogue or whatever) works, the cords shouldn't pose much of a problem. The way everything's organised is pretty intuitive once you've learnt it (doesn't take long). If you don't fancy tweaking around with numbers, you can set midi CC's to control whichever parameters you fancy, & then just use an external fader box to manipulate the sound, old synth-style.
The FILTERS are fantastic! So many of them, and so tweakable. They were my reason for buying the thing, and i've never been disappointed by them.
The standard FX *are* a bit weak, and not 1/2 as flexible as i'd like, but they sound ok overall.
Overall, if you're looking for a non-computer solution, and don't wanna go down the ultra-tech kurzweil route, this is a fantastic, fantastic machine.

its a great sampler,great sounds,great editing,incl.beat mungling,numerous filters,flexible mod.matrix,etc...i once used it w/ the yammy 24x cdrw,but failed,so i tried my friend's teac 32x cdrom drive,it works then i bought an old apple 12x cdrom drive.it works too.so i'm now a happy emulator owner.only complaint is the pricey official emu cdroms,they cost me about half price of my used e6400ultra.does anyone know any other way to buy third party emu cdrom sound library?
