picked one of these up for about $250, and love it. can't use it all the time on it's own, but it works great when you use it with other instruments. got some great things out of it to use on my cd. go to http://www.screwworm.net and check it out. heavy guitar, but you can hear some loops of the eml.

Hmmm, it isn't really a 2600. It isn't really a EMS VCS3. It isn't really a Moog 15.
This machine is closer to a Sonic Six than the other semimodular contenders of its era. Funny thing...
I bought this box to have a EML in my collection. I made sure it worked, tried some of my favorite 2600/VCS3 style patches. I wasn't very impressed. Later I bought a EML 500 (gotta have the DEVO box) and I was pretty surprised at how good of a sound effect box the 500 is. It made me come back to the 101 and give it another shot. Basically, I think it is a cross between a MS20 and a VCS3. It has the relatively stable but pretty sterile VCO's of the Korg with the aurprising (that means unpredictable in a nice way) subtractive filters and modulation assets. Don't overlook these guys, they are cheaper than any of their contemparies and can produce some pretty unique results.
And while your at it, see if you can get your hands on a 500. They are just as fun......

I owned this one once, I bought it in less-than-OK shape and needed a substantial calibration thruout...sorry to admit,I decided to sell it. How very stupid of me!
The filters were not anything stunning, but you could patch in out-of-this-universe things, and stack four(4!) oscs with wild modulations...kicks ass, dude! True analogue, true knobs, looks like a real synth, sounds like a real synth, nothing virtual!

This Synth is my FAVORITE!!!! Not only can I progam sounds from sublime to perverse, but I can route my sampler and/or my bass through it's filters. And who says I need stompboxes! My 101 can just about handle anything. To get my synth, you'd have to pry it from my cold dead fingers!!

This is just one of the most fun things I've come across in my life - It's like legos with sound. Make sure you have lots of patch cords though - Everytime I used the thing I used them all up :)
Excelent for sound effects - Particularly "Warehouse" type stuff... Like machines, drills, hums and such.
