The ELKA EK22 is basicly an Oberheim Matrix 6 in an other disguise. It sounds almost the same, but the ELKA has a better and fuller sound output. It's also better built than the Matrix 6 and is not crappy as the Oberheim too. It has a true analogue poly sound. There's a panning slider next to the volume and layering sounds is possible, something you can't do on the Matrix.

This unit is definitely worth checking out.

Sadly there are only 32 user patches. The 64 factory presets sounds crap. They definently don't do the machine justice. With no realtime controllers and only one data-entry slider for programming it is certainly not the most intuitive of synths. If you know what you are doing, though, you can create the most aquasonic, transparent analog sounds imagineable. It also has velocity and aftertouch, so for the patient programmer it will be gratifying. It has its own very liquidy sound, largely because of the unique filter. The sound is a 5, but then again there are a few very annoying drawbacks... but I will never part with it. On the whole its a
