Even in our days, when hardware samplers seem to be out date, this machine shines. The sound is perfect and the noise floor is lower than on my Akai S6000. The only drawback is the loud SCSI harddisk. Programming on the E5000 ultra makes fun. I recently started to sample a lot of self- created sounds from a Nord Lead 2. When using all four timbres, you can make very rich and astonishing sounds. They don't loose much after sampling and sound as punchy as the originals. I always wonder about the bad taste of roland engineers when listening to their presets in for example an JV2080. It is so easy to create better presets. The next thing for me will be to sample my Juno 6.

This is more than just a sampler. It's a great synth too.

Looks and sounds expensive, and the OS is great.I've had it for over a year and I'm learning new things about it every day. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Only 4 outs which is a shame but I'm not going to hold this against e-mu as this is supposed to be a economy model.

I wish creative/e-mu didn't have to drop the hardware line as these machines are much better than emulatorX

Decided to flog my XL1 turbo (with xtra boards) and develop my E5000 ultra. Got the 32midi channel board (cheap), got the Orbit Rom (cheap) and the 128 voice exp (cheaply) and a hard drive. And there I was thinking I would miss the extra filters and the sound morphing of the XL1, HA. The Emulator operating system is galactic. Patchcords, modulating filters, dodgy effects = a top notch sampler with amazing capabilities. But the one thing I LOVE above any other sampler on the market (and cor blimey guv'nor I've 'ad a few) is the BOOST function after recording an audio sample (this is prevelent on all the e's, 64, 6400, 6400ultra ext etc etc). I record all my samples quietly to see how the boost will react, this adds a lot of character to your sampling!! Buy it, expand it and abuse it! Be prepared....an orbit ROM board means you can only have a maximum of 64mb (330 odd seconds of sampling time! HA again)
