I am the proud owner of an xl-1 since last week. At first i bought a crappy micro modular but it disappointed me. I traded it for an xl-1 after two days. I think the E-mu sounds great and I like the multitimbrality as well. 16 parts of pure power instead of one on my Yammie cs1x. I am still waiting for a pc editor because i'm having trouble to edit the sounds on it. You guys in the usa are lucky because the music gear in the Netherlands is outrageous because of the increasing dollar value and the decreasing Euro value. But anyway, if you buy an Xl-1 I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed because it sounds rich and you can get virtually any sound out of it!! I rate it with a 10.

I had an opportunity to spend a few hours with an XL 1 today, and I must say I was very surprised at the quality it delivers! I've been a die-hard JV1080/XP30 user for years now and I've really come to like having all-purpose instruments which performs most tasks without any mess. This is certainly such an instrument - just find your synth bass, your drumkit or your pad and you're ready to GO. It has very nice sounds which will give you new creativity. I'd recommend it to anyone. And I'm getting one for myself. Feels great. It looks great too, almost "glowing in the dark" yellowish. Fits perfectly in the rack, too.
