I really do like this peice of gear. I hear a lot of people dissin the Orbit in these adds, but you gotta take it for what it's worth. I love the drums on the thing: the Beats mode is kind of useless, but fun for when you're just messing around to a simple beat. Useful to doodle around with. But I love the drum sounds...great for dance music of any kind. The LFO's are fun to play with, and you can route them to anything...syncable to MIDI, gotta love that. I wasn't horribly impressed with the filters, unlike lots of people, they just don't rip, but you can get some killer warm pads 'n' stuff. The basses are nice, you can kick in a nice sub-bass, and it'll work. Not quite as phat as my Juno, but defiinately usable. This thing can do some weird FX type sounds, it's got tons of old skool hits and bangs and clatter. Best of all, though, it's EASY to use. You can have this thing up and running in 5 minutes easy, and programing patches really isn't so difficult, and the 6 outputs is quite convenient. Personally, i really enjoy the module...it's a great addition to any techno/dance artist's aresenal, espeacilly now that E-mu has 'em cheaper. The only real big bummer is a lack of effects, which could really spice the thing up, but run it through any FX box (it has 2 FX send/returns) and bang you're up and running.

Well, no fx, but the filters are nice..the beats mode is a bad gimick..there are alot of sounds and a bunch of drum kits..some fo the pads are nice..but most of the sounds are just samples of other analog stuff..and without a controller, the patches are dull...tweakability is necessary to liven them up..the drums may be useable however with fx....I would not buy this unit unless your studio is already pretty built up..

Orbit is a simplified version of Morpheus.There is no segment jump and filters are not enough for a programmer.Also you have to buy a launch pad to control its mod. matix.And worst of all beats mode is not as exciting as my Casio VL1's beats,don't buy it if you want something serious.

With the right production (eq & fx), the orbit V2 shines! Great for acid-techno or psy-trance. I particularly like using it for resonant pads, synth efx, and percussion. :)

Pros: It has got some very nice analogue sounds... I don't use the basses much myself, but it has some magic analogue strings, leads and pads that I use very frequently - even though I also have a K2000, which IMO kicks ass for analogue stuff... The inbuilt filters are great, very professional and cutting.
The drumsets are highly usable! A professional die-hard house or techno producer would probably appreciate a sampler more, but for an amateur house/dance musician they definitely work out all right! An excellent base to build from.
Cons: User interface is very modest... Remember, this is designed to be a sound module, not a synth! It's definitly possible to program your own sounds, but it takes some time... During the year I've owned this module, I have only done some minor modifications to the existing sounds. I know that there are some free software programmer around, that might be worth a look.
No on-board effects.
"Beats mode" is useless for anything but play, but hey, you can always ignore it.
Biggest problem with the box is that it's way too over-priced. Still, it's a good and usable box; I consider the sounds very professional! If you get it cheap (like I did), it's definitely worth considering...
