Hmm... I read that someone had a problem with his Orbit and also with planet Phat.. This problem only happends when you are using a patch that is linked with another... Just try to use another patch or change the link option...
Anyway... The Orbit is good for drums and strange sounds... Sounds something like FREDDY K (ACV rec.) if you modify the sounds in a good way...

Glad to read that a lot of other users find this machine crap too. I thought I was the one being a fool, but even a Cheetah MS6 works more pleasantly. OK, I know its just a sample player, but for the price you get a really bad one. The user interface is fucked and it's timing is baaaad, the machine gets confused when you send a lot of data at once (the same amount that other machines can handle very well). Ok, it can be fast to work with when you're in a hurry and need one quick cheap techno sound or a pad, but keep your hands of the filters, a lot of different types to choose from, but all strangly plastic sounding. (once the Orbit might become a wanted classic because of this....) The outputs are pretty noisy too. And the worst fuck-up I found is the fact that once you've just editted a sound, on, lets say channel 12, and you go on to the next channel; you will loose the settings for the previous one; GOD!!!!! Does one really have to store every edit whithin a "patch" before skipping to the next? (the machine is always in a kind of patch mode; it works kind of different: midi channel based; sometimes this works fast but usually its just a drag) The overall sound is muffelled but to be honoust; I kind of like that .Some standard samples, like famous stabs or to-often-used "oohs and aahs" are so lowfi that you can better sample them from one of "Black-box" 12"es or something. I'm really glad I don't own the one I'm forced to work with.... Unless you hate doing sounds yourselves; or have to much money; You'd indeed better buy a sampler with some sample-CD's for almost the same price.

mediocre. sounds can be extensively edited, but the source material, the samples, are actually quite uninteresting. play a plain, unfiltered note on an analogue and you've got something abstract. do the same on the orbit and you've got a flat, "cardboard" like sound. but in the midst of other sounds, and modulated to hell, you've got a fairly good sound effect box. i use these wierd sounds alot. would i pay eight hundred dollars again, if i could do it again? no.

Let's get things straight. This is NOT a sampler or an all-purpose synthesizer. Like it says on the god damned front panel - its a dance module. We all knew what was when we bought it. It's safe to say that most us who are happy with it weren't dumb enought to think that it was anything else. I have plenty of analog synths and samplers, and I knew what I was getting into when I threw down the $700 bucks. That's a pretty fucked up mistake to make, my friends. Nevertheless, this module is very well made, ..good sounds, excellent EIV filters, needs an FX module, needs a better UI.

this is a great sample playback module, alot of different modulation routings for sample playback. one cool thing I've done is made a unique drum kit by selecting my favorite kit then going to the master menu and go to the user defined tuning, from there play each sound and tune it to your liking. It's an easy way to make a custom kit, also easy to make a darkwave style kit. the only drawback is that you can only use one user defined tuning for your kit, so make it cool!! Peace, and don't sell out to any new fads, You'll only regret it later
